Since the start of school in August, I have been travelling from Texas, to D.C., to Oklahoma, and back giving presentations on organizing and family management. My weekends and many weekdays have been filled with educational talks and demonstrations. Recently I spoke at IKEA Dallas (Frisco) on a Back-to-School topic. About 40 people attended this free workshop and IKEA gave away some GREAT door prizes (see photo below). With the cooler weather finally here, we are in full gear scheduling garage organizing. This is a service we can only offer during the cooler months of the year, so if your garage needs some work, now is the time to call Get Organized!. One of our organizing clients called us to help her curb her shopping addiction by purging items, reorganizing her spaces, and holding a garage sale. As the holiday season approaches, we will be offering a new organizing service. For those of you who do not want to spend weeks putting up Christmas decorations, or want a festive household but do not know where to begin, Get Organized! introduces our Christmas Decorating Services. We have two great packages to choose from - one we give you the ideas, and the other we do the work for you. In addition to our services, starting this month on Facebook we will be posting weekly Christmas organization tips.  Academy Alumni Association will hold an electronic device collection and document recycling event on October 12, 2013 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. There is no charge to drop off these items, but donations will be accepted. If you are ready to purge electronic items or shred unwanted paper clutter, bring them to City Hall in Richardson, Texas. |

Meet the GO Team: Karla
Over the next few months we will be giving you the "inside scoop" about members of our GO Team. Learn some interesting facts about each of them, and a little about why they enjoy organizing. Maybe you'll catch up with an organizer that helped you get organized!
Karla's forte' is staging someone's home for resale. She is very visual and can see the improvements before the clutter is removed. She says purging unwanted items that cause clutter is key in this situation. Function of the room is imperative, whether it be a kitchen, living area, kid's room, craft room or even a laundry room. Furniture placement, lighting, and accessorizing are other factors Karla must keep in mind in order to give clients the proper guidance to help simplify their lives.
Karla has traveled to many different countries, and has noticed the amount of stuff Americans buy. They purchase too many things that do not work for their space, and with no real plan for how to store an item, they buy a bigger home.
To Karla, less is more, and she finds great satisfaction in watching her clients come to that realization.
Karla is also very talented with home decorating. She loves to bring personality into the home and make it beautiful.

Most cities offer bulk pickup for free, but many times the homeowner must take all the trash to the curb where it may stay for days or rent a vehicle to take the bulk to a collection site.

Smart Storage Tip...
Use ordinary tension rods in the kitchen or bathroom cabinets to organize cookie sheets, cutting boards, muffin pans, and more.
In the kitchen, place rods in a cabinet in a vertical position and slide pans in between them. Place two rods spaced accordingly between each pan. Make sure you measure the cabinet and count your pans before shopping for these rods.
In the bathroom you can use these same rods placed horizontally to hang cleaning bottles for easy access. Our organizers have used larger shower tension rods to hang clothes in laundry rooms. It's low cost and it works.
