Summer is usually a quiet time in our business, so it becomes a period of research and planning for future growth. We are busy finding resources for our Back-to-School fall organizing contest and doing research on new services that our company may offer later this year. Along with the future expansion of our business, my family has recently experienced a few exciting changes. Our oldest son recently got married and our family now includes a daughter-in-law. For the past six months, our middle son has been dating what he thinks may be his future bride. As I contemplate these business and personal changes, I want to offer a few suggestions for those families on the other end of change. Recently we had a client lose a parent. She now faces the daunting task of deciding what to do with the artwork, furniture, and household items. Do you sell the items? If so, what are the pros and cons of consignment, an estate sale, ads on Craigslist, and other sales possibilities? There are a lot of options available, and the choice depends on the percentage of the total sale you want to retain, and how much time and energy you are willing to invest. On a separate note, be sure to plan an active summer with your family. It has been said that, "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." We certainly don't want our family to be dull. I also got an urge to do some adventure traveling, so my family will be heading to Oklahoma this summer to see some natural waterfalls and check out other sites and activities around the area. Organize a Fun Outing
Have you ever picked up those free fans at expos or fairs? Often once we leave the event we drop them in the nearest trash can. Next time, keep them in your car for trail walks, outdoor festivals, and other hot summer outings.
A great place to use those fans this summer is Cedar Ridge Preserve. This is a little bit of the hill country just 20 minutes outside of downtown Dallas. With 600 acres and over 9 miles of trails, Cedar Ridge Preserve has one of the most difficult trails in the Dallas area.
Don't forget to bring a camera, cold wash clothes in plastic zipper bags with ice to keep everyone cool, and wear hats for sunshade. Organize an outing with your kids this summer to a place you have never been. If you haven't been to Cedar Ridge Preserve, this might be the summer to check it out.
