Greetings!
Summer is my favorite time of year, when life becomes less structured than on typical school days. As an organizer I do love structure, but I enjoy letting my hair down for a few months, too. I was recently invited by Dr. Bill Clark, of Clark Financial Group, to share organizing advice on his radio show. We discussed how to make decisions when organizing spaces: what to keep and what to give away; options for selling unwanted items; and how to manage paper clutter. Another topic focused on working with seniors and how to help them downsize their home's contents before a move. We hope to have this segment soon to share with our fans. A few months ago our GO team gathered for two company photo shoots. We will be using selected photos for our website and marketing pieces. The location for one of the shoots was a large model home in Dallas that has a closet many women only dream about. The organizers and I got a little carried away having fun with so much space (see picture). I am so proud of our Get Organized! Team. The organizers are an unmatched group of women who know how to take care of our clients and also know how to have fun. I feel blessed to have this team of ladies in my company. Lastly on June 21, from noon to 1 p.m., I will be available on my Facebook page to answer your questions. You can ask me through private message or post your question on my page. Send me photos of your space problems and let me give you ideas or solutions. I look forward to giving you my time and attention free of charge on the 21st for your organizing or family management questions. |

Ways to Honor Dad
Looking for creative ways to honor dad on his special day? This Father's Day, start off with the perfect gift for dads who spend time on a computer. An e-card is a fun way to speak dad's language and create a lasting memory by tossing in something humorous, serious, or purely sentimental.
Think simple and inexpensive for gift ideas. Let the kids create redeemable coupons, allowing them to let their artistic talents shine. Help them come up with ways to help dad in the yard or garage, or by completing his "honey-do list" on Saturdays around the house. Dad can choose the task after the children pick the area in which they would like to help. This is a great way for them to spend time with him, while learning new tasks!
For older kids, suggest fun activities they might like to do with dad. Does he like sports? How about tickets to a game. Is he a music lover? A theater event may be the way to go. Find your discounted tickets at stubhub.com. This is a great way to spend time with dad doing the things you love without paying full price!

It's Time to Organize
School Papers
Now that school is over, it is time to manage the boxes, files, and stacks of your kid's school papers and art projects. We have some great ideas about how to sort them and choose a proper location to store them that is easily accessible.
Everyday school papers: Purchase one appropriately sized container per child, write their name on it, and store it in a practical location. If the child is old enough, have them drop their own papers in this location daily. No decisions will be made on what to keep until summertime. Once the school year is over, select the best of their Math, English, Art, etc. papers. Use a Manila envelope large enough to store the chosen school papers for that year, such as 8x10 or 11x14. Write their name, age, and school year on each envelope. Have one plastic tub with a lid for each child stored in the attic or garage to hold many years of envelopes.
Art: During the school year, store art pieces in a large plastic container or cardboard box. Once the school year is over, it's time to choose which ones to keep. Take pictures of the ones that will be discarded because they are too large to store, and put them in a photo album. Each saved art piece should have the year or grade written on it, and be kept in an appropriately sized plastic tub. These can be stored in the attic or garage as well.
Portfolio: Important documents, such as school or music programs, certificates, awards, or letters of achievement, should be kept separately from other papers and artwork. These can be stored in a container for each year and then moved into a binder with plastic protectors for safe keeping. These binders will be a lifesaver when it comes time to get a job, apply for scholarships, or to enroll in college. You will not be the parent or student scrambling, trying to locate all those important documents of when they are needed the most!

Summer Meal
Planning for Kids Are you like many other moms who struggle with meal planning during the summer? Do you find that you are spending more money going out to eat? Would you like to include the kids more in the kitchen, but you are not sure how to do it without feeling overwhelmed? Maybe you have kids with special dietary needs and you just haven't found the right resource that works for you. Bringing your kids into the kitchen is a great way to train your future helpers, but it can be a bit messy, time consuming, and trying for your patience if you are not organized. It can also be a great way to have fun, work together, and teach some Science, Math, and practical skills for managing a home. Why not let each child, considering their varying ages, choose their favorite recipe, write down the ingredients, shop with mom, and calculate the cost at the store. Each child can take on a different task for the chosen recipe, or allow each child to have their own recipe. You will be surprised how much they enjoy this summer time activity with mom. If you have kids with food allergies, this might be a good resource. Include all of your children in the process to teach teamwork and sensitivity to the needs of others. It is also a problem solving challenge to find recipes that all family members can eat and enjoy. Summer is usually a time for celebrating. Why not let the kids help plan birthday, July 4th, or summer swim parties for classmates, friends or siblings? Choosing a theme, decorating, cleaning the house, sending out invites, and baking party goodies can be fun for everyone. Check out these resources and enjoy time in the kitchen this summer with your kids! |

Activities in the Bag!
Have you ever noticed that each time you take a trip to the pool, you spend a lot of time gathering the same items for the pool bag? Where is the sunscreen? Someone please grab the swimming towels. Refill the water bottles and don't forget the toys for the pool!
Make this summer more organized. Pack a bag for each activity and put everything needed for that activity in the bag. Plan ahead for an outdoor picnic by putting the plastic dishes, silverware, napkins, cups, and favorite blanket in the specified bag. The same process works for games or practices for their team sports? Each child could have their bags pre-packed for each of these events, and when it is time to walk out the door, all they have to do is grab their bag!
