Greetings!
Merry Christmas to our GO Fans! 2012 has been such a great year for us. Our GO Team has grown, we've increased our services to include small businesses and corporations, and have added packing and unpacking services to our list of services. It is my goal to receive from each of our clients an "A" rating on every detail of our service and performance. I am extremely protective of the quality of service we provide our clients and have been so thankful to my GO Team for not only their hard work, but also the mental preparation they are willing to give to create the best possible outcome for every job. One of my organizers recently told me that she not only prays for each of our clients before starting the job, but also has spent sleepless nights thinking through the planning and preparation for the next day's work. This is the kind of team I am so proud to have in Get Organized!. On a different note, last month I wrote about being invited back for the third year in a row as a speaker for the Great Big Texas Home Show held at Cowboys Stadium. Since that announcement I have also been invited to speak at the Fort Worth home show as well. I am excited to get the opportunity to meet my Fort Worth fans and will soon give you the details. In December we announced the winner of our Pamper a Mom Giveaway to Kati in Murphy, Texas (see picture below). What started out as organizing her pantry as part of the prize package has turned into organizing most areas of her home, including a garage, office, kid's room, and more. I guess when you get the organizing bug, it's hard to stop. :) Finally, I want to wish each of you a very Merry Christmas. Slow down and push aside the idea of a perfect Christmas and just enjoy your family. |

Where do I put all those new Christmas gifts?

Christmas is quickly approaching and now might be a good time to plan ahead and think about where to put the new gifts you and your family will receive.
Many of us attend work parties, church fellowships, invite family over for the holidays, or maybe you have even attended a "White Elephant Gift Party".
When receiving an item that you like and want to keep, purge something that you no longer use or want to make room for the new gift. The unwanted gifts can be donated to a local charity such as The Salvation Army, Goodwill, or Friendship House. You may know a family in need or maybe you have a son or daughter about to venture out on their own and they could use your extras.
The new toys kids receive for Christmas can become a challenge for families with closets and playrooms bursting at the seams with used and unused toys and games. So what should you do to get ready for the new gifts to come from Grandparents or classmates? One strategy is to start cleaning out their rooms now, or right after Christmas. Sometimes it helps to make a game out of it. Call it, "Out with the Old and in with the New". We have found that by making this process fun and emphasizing that it will be helping others, most children will go along with it. Before you invite your kids to play this game, be sure to have some ideas about which toys might be the best to let go.
Set an example for your children and suggest they give away as many gifts as they receive. If you are doing this before Christmas, encourage them by saying that they need to make room for new toys. When looking through the toys, ask them if they think another boy or girl might enjoy playing with them also. Encouraging the choice to help others will develop a giving spirit.
This process will also work for the adult members of the family. Have fun and make giving as well as receiving a part of your holiday season.

A Great Family Tradition
Building and decorating graham cracker houses during the holidays is an easy, fun, memory-making tradition for the whole family. The kids will love to do the shopping for the licorice, candy canes, marshmallows, and hard candies.
Use the suggested recipe below for your icing (glue). Buy graham crackers for the walls and roof. While at the grocery store, gather some box bottoms from the end displays to use as trays for making and displaying your houses.
Icing
This recipe makes 4 cups, but could be easily halved.
Ingredients: 3 cups powdered sugar; 2 egg whites
Directions: Sift 3 cups of powdered sugar (this keeps it from becoming lumpy). Separate the 2 egg whites into a separate bowl. Combine the sugar and egg whites and stir or mix until shiny (this is best done by a mixer, but good old-fashioned elbow grease will work in a pinch).
Optional: Add the juice of 1 lemon into icing to keep it white.
A thicker consistency will provide extra stability (like peanut butter). You can place icing into an icing tube for easier application or you can make your own by using a Ziploc bag and snip off one corner. Snip the corner very little to keep the portion size thinner and more manageable.
After making the icing, give each child their own bowl along with a butter knife for spreading. Give them each a cardboard tray lined with wax paper. Spread boxes of graham crackers out for easy reach and display the candies out on the table, one bowl for each kind of candy. Once the kids have used the icing to glue their graham crackers into a house shape, let the houses dry for about 15 minutes or until hard before adding the candy.
This is a great time to sing Christmas songs or ask the children to share with their friends and family what Christmas means to them. After the icing is dry, let the kids decorate the houses with the hard candies. When the houses are complete, use them for display throughout the Christmas season. Don't forget to take lots of photos of the decorating and the displays. Once this is done, it's time for cleanup. With leftover icing and a variety of candies, this part can be a lot of fun for everyone. When Christmas is over you can throw away the houses, but still have the photos to save the memories for many years to come. |

Saving Christmas Cards
This is a great idea from one of our long time clients. She takes Christmas cards received from the current year, puts a hole in each one and attaches them to a book ring. During the Christmas season she displays them for easy viewing. Once Christmas is over, she stores them with previous years in a large box for quick referral. What a great way to view pictures from each of the families as they grow and change over the years.
Our thanks goes to Dody from Frisco, Texas!

Savvy Ways to Save
When shopping for Christmas gifts, the challenge is often to stay within your budget. One way is to limit how many gifts you buy. When shopping for children, set a limit at three gifts each. One needed clothing item, one nice toy, and one game for the family to share. Stocking stuffers will take care of smaller gifts. For extended family, drawing names makes gift buying easier and is a good way to lessen the financial burden on family members.
