THE VOLUNTEER BRIEF

Martine Ferguson

As another year draws to an end I'd like to thank our incredibly dedicated team of volunteers.

The HWAH family has grown to 64 regular and semi-regular volunteers!

Needless to say the Sanctuary would not be what it is without all your efforts and love for our residents. I feel so blessed to work with each and every one of you. You make my job super easy!

Much was accomplished at the Sanctuary this past year and we look forward to having another fabulous year working towards the Sanctuary's mission with you. Happy New Year!

A very special

to Pam Tellier.

Pam has been a volunteer since 2010 and this year was her final year at the Sanctuary. She has moved to sunny Florida and we wish her the very best.

Pam was a do-it-all member of the HWAH family - from grooming to poop scooping to playtime to kennel assistant to housekeeping.  She literally did it all. And she always did it with a big smile on her face and with great love in her heart.

We love you Pam and miss you dearly.  Please come visit us often!

Pam has a very special bond with Happy and Tammy Two Too and she keeps in touch with them often via Sher and the internet.

CFC (Combined Federal Campaign) season is upon us.

You can donate to HWAH using the CFC code 69166 from anywhere you live. Thank you for your continued support of the Sanctuary!

End of Year Cleanup

The end of the year is a good time to clean out your pet's medicine cabinet.

Giving pets expired medications may be unsafe. So what I like to do, now that the year is ending, is go through my pups' medications and dispose of any expired ones. I am sure many pet parents are like me and keep medications on hand 'just in case' but please be aware that improper storage can adversely affect medications. Most medications will have the expiration date listed on the container and since it is nearly impossible to determine if the chemical stability has been altered, it's safer just to toss it.

If you are unable to find the expiration date, you can ask your veterinarian or dispose of it if it was prescribed over a year ago as many medications start to break down after one year.  Please dispose of opened liquid or gel bottles as they may no longer be sterile.

For proper disposal and whether you can flush down the toilet or not, please click here.

The end of year is also a good time to wash those doggie beds and toss out any torn or ragged toys. After all, pups and kitties need presents too!  So why not spring for some new toys!

Welcome!
