Please Read IMPORTANT INFORMATION about Senior Pet Safety Net pets:

The Senior Pet Safety Net Email is a COURTESY POSTING for senior or special needs dogs or cats who need a home.  This is  a service offered by HWAH to help  senior dogs or cats in need when HWAH is not able to accept them into the HWAH program.

If you have questions about, or an interest in, the featured pet, please contact the person indicated in the Safety Net email.

Safety Net Pets are not HWAH Residents.  Once a Pet becomes a HWAH Resident, our commitment is that they will remain at HWAH for their entire life.  They will not be put up for adoption.

As always we are grateful for your support and your assistance in helping these pets in need by sharing their plight with anyone you feel might be interested.

HWAH truly believes:

"Saving one dog might not change the world.
But, surely for that one dog the world will change forever."

Sassy:  Hunting For A New Home
We're told that Cocker Spaniels like Sassy here were bred to be hunting dogs.  "The smallest of the sporting breeds" according to the AKC.

Sassy hasn't done much hunting, and that's fine with her.  She's been a happy homebody in Westminster, Maryland for her entire 11 years.  She's perfectly healthy, great with kids, crate trained. She's been an 'only pet' so we don't know how she would do with other dogs or cats.

Sassy's original owner died suddenly and the owner's mother took Sassy in.  Now, unfortunately, Mom needs to move to senior living.  Sassy is now hunting for a new forever home -- and if you can share her story and help get the word out, she'd appreciate it!

Alexis:  Lost In Transition
Here's Alexis, a gorgeous Great Pyrenees - Australian Shepherd Mix.

At 85 pounds, she's big enough for the whole family to enjoy!  At her house or visiting at the relatives' house, she always fit right in.

Alexis has gotten along well with other dogs and with the family cat, as long as you feed her separately from the other pets.  Walking, playing catch or tug of war, or riding in the car -- she's up for all that!  She's not a water dog, though.  She's also perfectly housebroken.

For financial reasons, Alexis' owners need to relocate from Tennessee to Maryland, to a senior living facility where Alexis is not allowed.  Her owners realize they have to give her up, but they're hoping to find a new home close enough to the Gaithersburg or Frederick, Maryland area that they could visit once in a while.  A home with some play space in the yard or even a farm would be ideal! The owners are desperate to keep this big beautiful dog out of a shelter.  Please help spread the word about Alexis!

Senior Cats In Need Of A Home.. For Just 2 Weeks
Seniors for Seniors is a cat rescue based in Rockville, Maryland.  Their mission:  To place as many senior cats with senior owners as possible.  They placed 95 cats in new homes last year!

Seniors for Seniors knows something we also know:  Owning a pet is good for the owner's health!  Senior humans, especially seniors living alone, are happier, and enjoy a better quality of life, with a mature cat in the house.  And of course, the cat is much happier too!

Right now, Seniors for Seniors is preparing to renovate their sanctuary.  For just two weeks, between March 31 and April 12, they need to find foster homes for some of their cats, including the ones you see here.

If you can help Seniors for Seniors with a temporary foster home for one of these kitties, please email Marcy George at mgbrooks@verizon.net.  Or call her at (301) 294-3409.

Happy Endings!
We have great news to report on two former Safety Net pets who have found new forever homes!
Here's the update on Buddy, a beautiful Setter. He is now curled up safe and warm at the home of Penny Crittenden, a former House with a Heart volunteer.
And here's Coco, a Chihuahua mix who's been taken in by Connie, a social worker who is also a caregiver for her mother.  So Coco will have plenty of companionship!

Remember, when you share our Safety Net on social media, you multiply the chances that these pets will find new homes!
