Please Read IMPORTANT INFORMATION about Senior Pet Safety Net pets:

The Senior Pet Safety Net Email is a COURTESY POSTING for senior or special needs dogs or cats who need a home.  This is  a service offered by HWAH to help  senior dogs or cats in need when HWAH is not able to accept them into the HWAH program.

If you have questions about, or an interest in, the featured pet, please contact the person indicated in the Safety Net email.

Safety Net Pets are not HWAH Residents.  Once a Pet becomes a HWAH Resident, our commitment is that they will remain at HWAH for their entire life.  They will not be put up for adoption.

As always we are grateful for your support and your assistance in helping these pets in need by sharing their plight with anyone you feel might be interested.

HWAH truly believes:

"Saving one dog might not change the world.
But, surely for that one dog the world will change forever."

Monroe:  Our Latest 'Buster's Buddy'

Meet our newest Buster's Buddies foster dog, Monroe.  He is looking for his new forever home, so please spread the word about this precious pup!

Buster's Buddies is our program which fosters special dogs whose medical needs are too extensive for their current rescue.  While the rescue continues to look for a forever home, HWAH supplies their daily needs of food, shelter, and love.  We also assist the rescue in promoting them for adoption. Monroe is being fostered in collaboration with Dogs Deserve Better.

Monroe has had a tough life so far. He was apparently turned into a shelter in Baltimore as a stray.  He is only about six months old, but he came in so debilitated he could hardly eat.  He was skin and bones and could barely walk.

He weighed about 5 pounds when he got to us.  He seemed to improve a little bit every day, but he was too weak to perform basic tasks.

Monroe went to the neurologist last week for an evaluation and an MRI.  The neurologist felt that someone may have choked Monroe, causing him to be oxygen deprived.  Since he is getting better over time, he may be rebuilding pathways in his brain. That's allowing Monroe to learn all the things he needs to know in order to be a dog.

Two weeks ago Monroe could barely eat out of a dish; he simply did not know what to do with food.  Now he gobbles up his food, runs all over the house, and has figured out the pet door!

Monroe is looking for his forever home, so if you are interested in meeting this special pup, please contact Rebecca with Dogs Deserve Better at rwarwick@nbm.org.

Senior Cats In Need Of A Home.. For Just 2 Weeks
(Please note updated email address)
Seniors for Seniors is a cat rescue based in Rockville, Maryland.  Their mission:  To place as many senior cats with senior owners as possible.  They placed 95 cats in new homes last year!

Seniors for Seniors knows something we also know:  Owning a pet is good for the owner's health!  Senior humans, especially seniors living alone, are happier, and enjoy a better quality of life, with a mature cat in the house.  And of course, the cat is much happier too!

Right now, Seniors for Seniors is preparing to renovate their sanctuary.  For just two weeks, between March 31 and April 12, they need to find foster homes for some of their cats, including the ones you see here.  We're reposting this again because the email address we received to post was incorrect.

If you can help Seniors for Seniors with a temporary foster home for one of these kitties, please email Marcy George at mgbooks@verizon.net.  Or call her at (301) 294-3409.

Choose One Or Both:
Peanut & Oreo
What a pair!  Oreo (male) and Peanut (female) are a loyal and loving pair of Chihuahuas from Chantilly, Virginia.

They've lived together and get along well together, but they aren't what you'd call a "bonded" pair -- you could adopt one, or the other, or both!  Since these two aren't particularly socialized with any other pets, we'd recommend that they be your only pets.

Peanut has a luxating patella (floating kneecap), a condition she was born with.  But she's not on any medication and she can run just fine!  She's affectionate and a picky eater.

Oreo's only health condition is allergies, which are treated effectively with a daily dose of Atopica. He loves food - 'food motivated' according to his owner - and will follow you everywhere!

They're both crate-trained, housebroken -- and unfortunately, they are potentially homeless as the owner moves to a new home where they're not allowed.  Can you help us find a new forever home for these fabulous furballs?

OREO
Male, neutered, 10 yrs old
Allergic - on Atopica
No other health conditions

PEANUT
Female, spayed, 10 yrs old
Grade 4 luxating patella
No other health conditions

These Chihuahuas may be adopted together or apart.
