The Senior Pet Safety Net Email is a COURTESY POSTING for senior or special needs dogs or cats who need a home.  This is  a service offered by HWAH to help  senior dogs or cats in need when HWAH is not able to accept them into the HWAH program.

If you have questions about, or an interest in, the featured pet, please contact the person indicated in the Safety Net email.

Safety Net Pets are not HWAH Residents.  Once a Pet becomes a HWAH Resident, our commitment is that they will remain at HWAH for their entire life.  They will not be put up for adoption.

As always we are grateful for your support and your assistance in helping these pets in need by sharing their plight with anyone you feel might be interested.

HWAH truly believes:

"Saving one dog might not change the world.
But, surely for that one dog the world will change forever."

Coco Will Warm Things Up This Winter
Time is short for Coco, a cute little 11-year old who has been with her owner in an assisted living facility in Lake Ridge, Virginia for several years now.  She has been a perfectly behaved companion, well-housebroken, great on the leash and friendly with everyone she meets.

Coco's only health issue in the past has been occasional seizures - but these are effectively treated with a prescription that runs $11 a month.

Unfortunately, Coco's owner's health has deteriorated and she doesn't get around well enough to take Coco outside any more. And the assisted living facility won't allow Coco to stay if she doesn't get outside to go to the bathroom.  The facility has set a deadline for Coco to move out.  A friend of the owner has reached out everywhere she can, including to us, to find Coco a new home.

Please share Coco's story with your friends and help this little fluffball find a forever home!

This Gorgeous Dog Was A Stray?  Meet Buster
This handsome retriever/hound mix is Buster, who wound up at the Gloucester, Virginia animal control shelter.

We can't imagine anyone wanting to part with this dog.  He's perfectly behaved, great with other dogs and kids at the shelter.  We're not sure but he's good about doing his business when he's out for a walk on the leash, so we think he's housebroken.

Buster came to the shelter with heartworms, Lyme disease and ear infections - he'll be good as new once he's through with the treatments.

If he came to live with you, you could count on Buster to be a laid-back companion, happy to take naps in the sun and leisurely walks.  We need to get this wonderful dog out of the shelter and curled up in front of a nice fireplace.
Maybe yours!

BUSTER
Breed:  Hound/Retriever mix
Gender:  Male (neutered)
Vaccinations:  Up-to-date
Health issues:  Brought to the shelter as a stray, being treated for heartworm, Lyme disease and ear infections.  No other issues we know of.

Not-So-Odd Couple! Georgie & Moppy
MOPPY
Moppy, a 15 pound female, has been living with Georgie, a 50-pound male, for so long they are inseparable.

The dogs' owner has been a foster owner for the Delmarva Cat Connection rescue in Salisbury, Maryland.  Now, it's these dogs who are in need of a rescue.  Their owner is hospitalized, and she will not be well enough return to her home when she recovers.
GEORGIE

One thing we know about Georgie and Moppy -- they've both lived with cats, lots of different cats, all their lives.  They're easy going and well-socialized, so they'll adjust immediately to new surroundings.

Did we mention that they are inseparable?  They sleep together, walk together, and are never more than a few feet apart.  Right now, they're living alone in their longtime home, getting frequent visits from a volunteer at the Cat Rescue to take care of them.

It's a tragedy that these two can't live out their lives with their longtime owner, who has taken such great care of them.  Please help us get the word out about Georgie and Moppy!

GEORGIE
Male (neutered) Mixed Breed
MOPPY
Female (spayed) Mixed breed

Age:  Both about 10

Health issues:  Georgie occasionally takes Tramadol for arthritis.  Moppy is on Prednisone, possibly for tracheal collapse.  Both appear to be in generally good health.

Gunter's New Forever Home!

We introduced you to Gunter in the Safety Net a few weeks ago.  This handsome 13-year old was facing an uncertain future, because a young child in the owner's home developed an allergy.

Coincidentally, our HWAH blogger and social media expert Erica Glass had an empty house after the passing of her beloved dog Emerson. She and and her husband Eric saw Gunter's picture in the Safety Net and realized he was meant to be their new dog!

As you can see, Gunter is making himself at home in his new digs!  He's as sweet as he looks -- loves to play in the snow, or snuggle in his bed. Another happy ending for a Safety Net pet -- we're thrilled! Thanks, Erica!
