Please Read IMPORTANT INFORMATION about Senior Pet Safety Net pets:

The Senior Pet Safety Net Email is a COURTESY POSTING for senior or special needs dogs or cats who need a home.  This is  a service offered by HWAH to help  senior dogs or cats in need when HWAH is not able to accept them into the HWAH program.

If you have questions about, or an interest in, the featured pet, please contact the person indicated in the Safety Net email.

Safety Net Pets are not HWAH Residents.  Once a Pet becomes a HWAH Resident, our commitment is that they will remain at HWAH for their entire life.  They will not be put up for adoption.

As always we are grateful for your support and your assistance in helping these pets in need by sharing their plight with anyone you feel might be interested.

HWAH truly believes:

"Saving one dog might not change the world.
But, surely for that one dog the world will change forever."

Time's Running Out For Penny

Penny is a unique blend - Labrador and Basset. She's mostly a sociable Labrador with slightly shortened legs.

Rub on her head and she'll follow you anywhere!

She'll have a good time with kids, with other dogs, or all by herself. She'll go out and play in the snow, but be just as happy curled up by the fire afterward. Take her on a car trip and she'll fall fast asleep.

Although Penny's a little slow to get started given her age, she moves around pretty well and has no unusual health problems - she hardly seems like a 12-year-old!

She's perfectly housebroken and crate trained. She seems quite interested in television - not sure whether she prefers drama, comedy or reality shows. And every year at Christmas, Penny has worn the Santa hat while the kids opened their presents.

Now Penny's in a difficult spot because her owner in Chesterfield, Virginia is going through a divorce and must relocate to a home where dogs aren't allowed, and no other relatives are in a good position to take her. The move is about a week away, so we're getting the word out - help us by sharing poor Penny's story and finding her a new forever home!

Charlie:  Ready For Action

Some people prefer senior pets because they can be less demanding when it comes to exercise and activity. But that's not always the case.

Our Beagle friend Charlie has been active all his life. He really craves the opportunity to get outside and run around his home in Alexandria, Virginia every day. Unfortunately, that makes it difficult for his owner, who has been diagnosed with a debilitating disease and now finds it difficult to provide Charlie the activity he craves.

The way Charlie looks and behaves, he could be a two year old! Except unlike a younger dog, this 10-year-old is mature and sociable and great on the leash. He gets along just fine with other dogs, cats and kids. He likes just about everything, except rides in the car. He'll go, but he's not a big fan of car trips. He's perfectly housebroken and has no health issues.

If you're looking for an active-but-civilized companion, we hope you'll invite Charlie home to live with you!
