The Senior Pet Safety Net Email is a COURTESY POSTING for senior or special needs dogs or cats who need a home.  This is  a service offered by HWAH to help  senior dogs or cats in need when HWAH is not able to accept them into the HWAH program.

If you have questions about, or an interest in, the featured pet, please contact the person indicated in the Safety Net email.

Safety Net Pets are not HWAH Residents.  Once a Pet becomes a HWAH Resident, our commitment is that they will remain at HWAH for their entire life.  They will not be put up for adoption.

As always we are grateful for your support and your assistance in helping these pets in need by sharing their plight with anyone you feel might be interested.

HWAH truly believes:

"Saving one dog might not change the world.
But, surely for that one dog the world will change forever."

Gunter:  Ready For His Close-Up
When it's picture taking time, Gunter has a way of hogging the frame.

He's a handsome German Shepherd/Lab mix, 46 pounds. Gunter's a quiet, happy fellow who adores going for a walk on the leash, playing fetch or just following you wherever you happen to go.  He's been a cuddly companion and the perfect watch dog, too!

If you have to leave the house, he's good with that, even if you're gone all day for work.  He's perfectly housebroken, gets along well with kids and cats, but not with other dogs.   So he ought to be the "only dog" in his new home.

He's been a happy part of the family in Catonsville, Maryland since he was a puppy.  Unfortunately, one of the family's kids has developed a severe allergy and nothing seems to help.  So Gunter needs a new home, right away!

Gunter needs some teeth pulled, and the vet wants to run a test first since Gunter's heartbeat is a little slow.  But Gunter's owners have agreed to cover the cost of his medical bills as well as food, for anyone who will adopt him.

Please share Gunter's story and help us get him into a happy new home!

The Belle Of The Ball:  Cinderella
This beautiful hound is Cinderella, and Cindy's story is a sad one.  She was a stray picked up and placed in the Essex County, Virginia animal shelter.

No one has claimed her -- she may have been abandoned by her owners.  The Essex County shelter has dealt with some of her medical issues, including a tumor on her chest that's been removed.  Dental work has been done, but she lost some teeth, so she sticks to softer food.  She's also been successfully treated for Lyme disease.

She appears to be housebroken, which isn't easy at the shelter.  She gets along OK with other dogs but even better with people -- she's really sweet and gentle and likes to play, but at her age she's not very demanding.  She's good on the leash and she almost never barks!
The crew at the shelter knows that an older dog like Cindy isn't a prime candidate for adoption.  So they're hoping to get the word out, and arrange for Cinderella to have a happy ever after in a real home.

CINDY
Breed:  Hound mix
Age:  12
Gender:  Female (spayed)
Vaccinations:  Up-to-date
Medical issues:  A tumor removed from her chest, requires a soft food diet

Bianca & Pricilla:  Take One, The Other Or Both
PRICILLA
Bianca and Pricilla are lucky to have each other right now.

These two personable cats were owned by an older couple, along with a couple of dogs.  The husband has just passed away, the wife passed about a year ago.

And now, these two cats are living alone in the late couple's home in Baltimore County, Maryland.

The couple's daughter has found homes for the dogs.  She would take the cats in herself but she has a dog and cat of
BIANCA
her own.  So she's desperately seeking new homes for the two of them, either together or separately.

These two shorthairs are 13 and 14 years old, have gotten along very well with each other, the dogs, and kids.  They're a healthy, cuddly pair, well-behaved, perfect with the litter box - and very, very lonely.  A new home will fix that!

BIANCA & PRICILLA

Age:  13 (Bianca), 14 (Pricilla)

Buddy:  For The Beagle Inside All Of Us
There are dogs, and there are Beagles.

Some say Beagles are stubborn, and hard to train.  We think of them as having a mind of their own, like many people we know!  But we also know plenty of very well-trained Beagles.

Buddy's previous owner was very ill, and a friend in Rosedale, New York took him in because she couldn't stand the idea of Buddy being put to sleep.  Unfortunately the new owner already had a dog, and the two dogs don't always get along so well.  So the best answer may be a new home for Buddy.

In the past, though, Buddy has gotten along well with other dogs.  At age 10 he still loves to run and play.  He'll be your constant companion around the house, but when he gets outside he'll roll in the grass for hours - if it's a nice day he's not so eager to come in.  He hasn't been perfectly housebroken in his new environment, but he's crate-trained and he may do better as an "only dog".  When it comes to snuggling, nobody does it better than Buddy. Just give him a chance!
