PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!
VOLUNTEER TO HELP OUR SENIOR PETS

We are still looking to fully staff our Kennel Assistant roster. We are on track but still need Kennel Assistants Wednesday morning and Friday morning. As you are aware the Sanctuary would not remain open without the donations received through our Short-Term Care program. Our Kennel Assistants lovingly take care of the visiting dogs and as such are a critical unit at the Sanctuary. If you know of someone who would like to volunteer as a KA, please ask them to fill out the volunteer form by clicking here.

If your schedule does not allow you to volunteer on a regular basis you can still contribute as a temporary Kennel Assistant. We often need substitute or secondary KA's during the holiday seasons, summer vacations or if one our regular KA's is out of town.

If you volunteer as a groomer, Guardian Angel or dog walker, and would like to participate in the volunteer 911 Call List, please let me know. We are looking to add to the list of volunteers who are available to take a dog or cat to the vet should an emergency occur during off-hours.

We are currently up to 66 regular and semi-regular volunteers (yay!). Volunteers find out about us through a variety of ways but as you can see here, word-of-mouth is crucial!

I'd like to thank all our volunteers for doing an amazing job spreading the word about the Sanctuary.

Here's To Pam!

This month, I would like to give a big THANK YOU to Pam Tellier, our fabulous General Duties volunteer on Mondays and Fridays.  Thank you, Pam, for your tireless dedication to the Sanctuary over the years.  Most of you have met her, but for the benefit of newcomers I'd like to let her introduce herself, in her own words:

PAM with HAPPY and (hiding) TAMMY TWO TWO

"Growing up I always had lots of pets, ranging from a duck, wild crow, various birds and lots of dogs.  Helping animals has always been my passion.  I have fostered for the Humane Society, worked at a local wildlife rehab place and have always owned many rescues.  Right now I have a German Short-haired Pointer whose was left homeless when her owner went to jail, and a unidentifiable mixed breed that was found wandering around in the Virginia.

"One day several years ago I saw a video on Facebook about HWAH.  I was blown away and had to find out more.  I was extremely excited when I found out it was located just 10 minutes from my home.  After a tour and visit I fell instantly in love and couldn't wait to become a part of the team. This place was truly a dream come true.

"I have totally enjoyed being a part of HWAH the past 3-4 years and love, love, love all the little souls that live and have lived there.  I am in awe of Sher and all the people who make HWAH work.  It is a place where love abounds and people are there because they love being there.

"Over the next year I will be transitioning to living in Florida (with tears)  but hope to keep  involved with HWAH and visit often.   As much as the doggies benefit from all the care and love they receive, it doesn't compare to the joy and satisfaction it brings me to love on them, feed them, brush them and even clean up after them. Yes,  I think HWAH is as close to heaven on earth as it gets!!!"

Pam

We're So Grateful...

I would like to recognize the following companies and organizations which participated in Volunteer Service Days at the Sanctuary this year.

UCG, whose 'Make a Difference Day' volunteers raked and bagged leaves, spread out new pea gravel, and landscaped the yard. We look forward to having them come back next year!

AARP, whose 'Day of Service' volunteers came out on September 11th and worked really hard improving the Sanctuary grounds. We hope to see them return next year.

The University of Maryland's CIVICUS student volunteers, who come out every Fall and Spring to landscape and beautify the Sanctuary. The students are very dedicated and hardworking and we look forward to seeing them every year.

'Tis the season for giving!
