Please Read IMPORTANT INFORMATION about Senior Pet Safety Net pets:

The Senior Pet Safety Net Email is a COURTESY POSTING for senior or special needs dogs or cats who need a home.  This is  a service offered by HWAH to help  senior dogs or cats in need when HWAH is not able to accept them into the HWAH program.

If you have questions about, or an interest in, the featured pet, please contact the person indicated in the Safety Net email.

Safety Net Pets are not HWAH Residents.  Once a Pet becomes a HWAH Resident, our commitment is that they will remain at HWAH for their entire life.  They will not be put up for adoption.

As always we are grateful for your support and your assistance in helping these pets in need by sharing their plight with anyone you feel might be interested.

HWAH truly believes:

"Saving one dog might not change the world.
But, surely for that one dog the world will change forever."

You'd Be Fortunate
To Get "Lucky"
One of the advantages of senior dogs is that they're often less energetic and demanding as they grow older.

Lucky is an Australian Shepherd mix, around 54 pounds.  Anyone familiar with Aussies knows that they enjoy lots of exercise and activity.  But at 15, Lucky is now more laid back, and proud of it.

He's great on the leash and perfectly housebroken, no health issues.  He likes getting out and about, but more and more he appreciates curling up.  He doesn't enjoy little kids; he gets along with other dogs but he prefers human company.  He's a perfectly mature companion!

Lucky is facing some bad luck, as his owners have been forced to move from their home in Tappahannock, Virginia to an apartment where dogs aren't allowed.

Please share Lucky's story with your friends and keep him out of the shelter!

Abby:  Because
She's A Beagle
We introduced Abby here a few weeks ago.  Her contact information has changed, and we want to give this sweetie every chance to find a happy new forever home.

Abby is a gorgeous 11-year old tri-color Beagle who is always ready to go for a walk. She's sociable with other dogs, kids and adults.

Beagles are known for hunting, and they aren't always willing to take your word for it when the hunt is over.  So when Abby smells something she doesn't always come when called.    Aside from that she's playful, lovable, and happily crate-trained.  (She's been known to get carsick if she travels on a full stomach.)

Abby is on a few regular meds -- levothyroxine for her thyroid, famotidine for acid reflux, and benazapril.  She's somewhat housebroken and trained on puddle pads.

Abby's owner is handicapped and is relocating from their longtime home in Frederick, Maryland to a rental that is more handicap-friendly. But the new apartment doesn't take dogs, so we're anxious to get this beautiful Beagle settled in a new home immediately.

Make Room For Tater

Tater is a strikingly handsome Tabby with some of the most beautiful markings we've ever seen.  If he looks concerned, it's probably because his happy home in Westminster, Maryland for the last 12 years is being sold and the family's new place doesn't accept pets.

Tater is sweet, a little shy at first, but then he can't resist hanging out with you all day. He's never been socialized with dogs but he gets along great with other cats, and enjoys cat toys and cat treats like catnip.  He gets an A+ on using the litterbox.  He has a thyroid condition which is well-treated with a daily dose of Methamazole, mixed in with his cat food.

This beautiful cat urgently needs a new home!  Please help us get the word out.

TATER
