Please Read IMPORTANT INFORMATION about Senior Pet Safety Net pets:

The Senior Pet Safety Net Email is a COURTESY POSTING for senior or special needs dogs or cats who need a home.  This is  a service offered by HWAH to help  senior dogs or cats in need when HWAH is not able to accept them into the HWAH program.

If you have questions about, or an interest in, the featured pet, please contact the person indicated in the Safety Net email.

Safety Net Pets are not HWAH Residents.  Once a Pet becomes a HWAH Resident, our commitment is that they will remain at HWAH for their entire life.  They will not be put up for adoption.

As always we are grateful for your support and your assistance in helping these pets in need by sharing their plight with anyone you feel might be interested.

HWAH truly believes:

"Saving one dog might not change the world.
But, surely for that one dog the world will change forever."

Abby:  Because
She's A Beagle
Abby is a gorgeous 11-year old tri-color Beagle who is always ready to go for a walk. She's sociable with other dogs, kids and adults.

Beagles are known for hunting, and they aren't always willing to take your word for it when the hunt is over.  So when Abby smells something she doesn't always come when called.    Aside from that she's playful, lovable, and happily crate-trained.  (She's been known to get carsick if she travels on a full stomach.)

Abby is on a few regular meds -- levothyroxine for her thyroid, famotidine for acid reflux, and benazapril.  She's somewhat housebroken and trained on puddle pads.

Abby's owner is handicapped and is relocating from their longtime home in Frederick, Maryland to a rental that is more handicap-friendly. But the new apartment doesn't take dogs, so we're anxious to get this beautiful Beagle settled in a new home immediately.

ABBY

Breed:  Beagle

Mickey:  Rated PG-13+
Our little friend Mickey has been through a lot.  He's generally quite lovable, but he got into a scuffle with a
a larger dog about six years ago, which explains his missing left eye.  (His right eye is fine.)

Understandably, Mickey gets skittish if he's confronted by a strange dog out in public.  At home, Mickey shares his house in Rockville, MD with a rescue dog and they get along great. With adults Mickey is playful, smart and craves affection!  All he needs is a few hours of quality time on your lap, and he's good to go.  He's been a cherished member of the family for years.

But young kids intimidate Mickey, and that's a problem since there's a one-year-old at home, and another baby on the way.  Mickey doesn't like roughhousing and he gets upset and jealous when the baby gets more attention than he does.  The only answer is to find Mickey a new, kid-free, loving home -- please share his story and help us find a happy ending for this cute little guy.

MICKEY
Age:  11
Breed:  Chihuahua
Gender:  Male (neutered)
Vaccinations:  Up-to-date

Medical conditions: No left eye (right eye is fine), some teeth removed in previous dental work
