Please Read IMPORTANT INFORMATION about Senior Pet Safety Net pets:

The Senior Pet Safety Net Email is a COURTESY POSTING for senior or special needs dogs or cats who need a home.  This is  a service offered by HWAH to help  senior dogs or cats in need when HWAH is not able to accept them into the HWAH program.

If you have questions about, or an interest in, the featured pet, please contact the person indicated in the Safety Net email.

Safety Net Pets are not HWAH Residents.  Once a Pet becomes a HWAH Resident, our commitment is that they will remain at HWAH for their entire life.  They will not be put up for adoption.

As always we are grateful for your support and your assistance in helping these pets in need by sharing their plight with anyone you feel might be interested.

HWAH truly believes:

"Saving one dog might not change the world.
But, surely for that one dog the world will change forever."

Oakie - Extraordinary Terrier Needs Extra Care
Talking about "an extraordinary Terrier" sounds redundant.  All Terriers are pretty extraordinary.  They can be demanding, domineering, energetic, and powerfully affectionate.

Oakie is all of the above.  He's a Rat Terrier mix, 17 pounds, about ten years old.

He's living at the Butler County Humane Society in Pennsylvania.  He keeps a low profile at the shelter -- he has a canine friend he enjoys hanging out with outside, or in the kennel director's office.  He's a bit unpredictable -- cuddly one minute and standoffish the next.  He's always ready to go for a walk outside.  He loves to be brushed, sometimes.  He generally doesn't like to be picked up.  He panics in a thunderstorm.  A calm, quiet home without noisy pets or kids would be best for him.

Oakie has Cushing's disease -- he'll need medication for the rest of his life.  Dogs with Cushing's usually need to get outside a lot to pee, but the shelter staff says he seems to be pretty well housebroken in spite of it.

Poor Oakie was found abandoned in a home with cats and another dog, more than a year ago.  The shelter has taken care of him since then, but it's not the quiet environment he really needs.  Please share Oakie's story if you know a place where Oakie can make a new forever home.

Onyx:  A Cup Of Poodle
If these pictures of Onyx were much bigger, they would be "actual size".

Onyx is a Teacup Poodle -- about 8 pounds.  "Teacup" is an unofficial breed variation, a Toy Poodle who is even smaller!  He's sweet and cuddly, full of energy at age 10, happy to walk on a leash, ride in the car or curl up with his owner.  We first met Onyx in July -- we're reposting him since he's still in need of a new forever home.

Onyx has developed a bit of glaucoma and with the loss of vision, he gets upset with very young children wanting to roughhouse with him. Unfortunately there are young children in Onyx's house in Auburn, Pennsylvania; including the youngest son who has special needs and often
makes the dog anxious and snappish.  He'll do best in a house with no kids.  He gets along great with adults.

Onyx is housebroken but needs to go a little more frequently these days; fortunately he's great with doggy diapers which he wears nightly with no problems.

If you're the kind of person who thinks a toy poodle is just TOO big, please consider adopting Onyx!
