Please Read IMPORTANT INFORMATION about Senior Pet Safety Net pets:

The Senior Pet Safety Net Email is a COURTESY POSTING for senior or special needs dogs or cats who need a home.  This is  a service offered by HWAH to help  senior dogs or cats in need when HWAH is not able to accept them into the HWAH program.

If you have questions about, or an interest in, the featured pet, please contact the person indicated in the Safety Net email.

Safety Net Pets are not HWAH Residents.  Once a Pet becomes a HWAH Resident, our commitment is that they will remain at HWAH for their entire life.  They will not be put up for adoption.

As always we are grateful for your support and your assistance in helping these pets in need by sharing their plight with anyone you feel might be interested.

HWAH truly believes:

"Saving one dog might not change the world.
But, surely for that one dog the world will change forever."

Sony - Turn Him On &
Watch Him Go

This sweet little Pekingese is Sony, 12 years old and 18 pounds of happy, sociable dog.

When he's not curled up snoozing, he'll be following you everywhere, happy for a little attention and affection.  He gets on great with adults and kids, but no way of knowing how he would handle other dogs or cats.  Sony is housebroken but needs to get out fairly often.  (Diapers are an alternative.)

Although Sony is in perfect health, his presence at home in Baltimore is a problem for their daughter, who has developed allergies to Sony -- she can no longer visit home without an attack.  So we're hoping that our little portable Sony can find a new forever home to plug into!

Lonely, Lonely Ruby
Ruby is a healthy 100% Beagle with a problem.

Her family in Richmond is spending many hours a day at the hospital, as their daughter copes with a rare disease.

Unfortunately, Ruby gets anxious when she's left alone.  At age 14 she still needs some exercise.  Her owner has left her with her elderly mom, but mom doesn't get around so much and keeping up with Ruby is a bit of a challenge.

She can bond with other dogs, and she won't get anxious if there's another dog around.  She's good with kids -- she's even done therapy work with Autistic kids.  But if left alone, she is quite an escape artist.

Go for a walk?  Sure!  She may think it's a hunting trip.  She also loves food (don't leave any around). She's well-housebroken but if she's left alone and gets upset, she's liable to pee in your shoe.  She's just the most energetic, loving Beagle you can imagine.. and then some.

The family can't afford a pet sitter for all those hours at the hospital.  So we're hoping to find a long-term foster home where Ruby will get the stimulation she needs.

Shy Little Gracie
Gracie is a fun, cuddly little Chihuahua.

At age 12 she's slightly weak in the knees and has a very low grade heart murmur.  But it hardly matters since she's not as active as she used to be. She does love running in circles and playing with miniature tennis balls and squeaky toys.  In the summertime she appreciates lounging outside in the sun.  She's housebroken and will go outside or use pee pads inside.

Gracie is on the shy side, and although she has been known to warm up to other dogs over time, she's uncomfortable around babies and young kids.  That's a problem because there's a new baby in their Bethesda, Maryland home. So with great regret, Gracie's owner is hoping to find her a forever home -- without children -- that appreciates a little snuggler.

Five Years In A
Shelter For Stormie - Unfair!

What a face!  Stormie is just about the most popular dog with the staff at the Salem County Humane Society in Carney's Point, New Jersey.  This no-kill shelter has had her for five years now.  Stormie happens to be partly blind, but she gets around OK and it's not the reason she's been unable to find a home.

For most of the five years since Stormie has been in the shelter, she's had a problem with incontinence.  But no more -- a shelter vet put Stormie on medication and the incontinence has been cured.

This gorgeous 11-year old French bulldog is great with adults and kids, but may not socialize well with other dogs or cats.  The shelter staff love to take Stormie for walks -- she's great on the leash.

After 5 years in the shelter our sweet, affectionate Stormie deserves blue skies and a forever home!

STORMIE
Gender:  Female (spayed)
Age:  11
Breed:  French Bulldog
Vaccinations:  Up-to-date
