PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!
VOLUNTEER TO HELP OUR SENIOR PETS
We still have a few volunteer positions that must be filled.
Here is the schedule of vacant shifts.

All of the positions are fillable on a weekly or fortnightly basis. Contact me at volunteer@housewithaheart.com for position descriptions.  Thank you so much to all our volunteers for recommending us to your friends, neighbors and co-workers. Most volunteers come to us through word of mouth so thank you for championing the Sanctuary!

If you'd like to join our team of seamsters and seamstresses, please let me know. This position can be filled at the Sanctuary, where we have a sewing machine, or at your home if you are already have a set-up. As you know, we go through tons and tons of doggie diapers and belly bands which constantly need mending and bed and sofa covers which routinely require patching.

If you'd like to volunteer at the Sanctuary but are not able to commit to a regular schedule, please consider joining our back-up team of Kennel Assistants. We will train you and call upon you during holidays when we need extra help or to fill in for our regular KAs when they are out of town. We rely on our back-up team during the summer and holiday seasons as we are often short-staffed during those times.

Welcome!

Please join me in welcoming the following new volunteers to our family!

We have thankfully added two new Kennel Assistants to the HWAH family-Justine G. who has taken on two(!!) KA shifts, Friday evening and Sunday morning and Patrick L., who is the new Tuesday morning KA.

The Kitties are thrilled that Gabby Y. now takes care of them on Wednesdays.

Also joining us is Jenner G., who will be able to assist us with Web design and administrative tasks.  Welcome Jenner!

We'd like to thank Allan M., who in addition to having his lovely Lily visit with us from time-to-time, is helping us with the boatload of mending and sewing projects at the Sanctuary.

Congratulations!

Please join me in congratulating two HWAH volunteers who have opened their hearts and homes to two June Safety Net pups. We are deeply touched and grateful to Nancy K. for adopting Lola and Amy G. for adopting Shaggy. Those are two lucky pups who have finally found their True Love Mommies.

Ted H. has kindly agreed to be the Sunday evening KA. Please join me in congratulating Ted on the new addition to his household: pup Jax, whom he adopted. Congratulations Ted!

Estate Planning Is For Pets, Too!

We read so many sad stories of dogs left alone and homeless after their owner passes.

Setting up a trust for your pets is simple and will ensure your pets are cared for according to your wishes should you predecease them or are no longer able to care for them.

Your trust document should:

  • Name a caretaker for your pets. Include alternate caregivers should the primary caretaker fall through.

  • Leave an amount of money to be used for pet care.

  • Describe how the pet should be cared for.

  • Name a person to go to court and enforce the terms of the trust if necessary.

  • State what should be done with any money that's left over when the animal dies.

Remember to share your plans and the name of the Trustee with family and to stay in touch with the designated caregivers and alternates over the years, as circumstances may change.

Pet Finder has an excellent pet trust primer to guide you through the process -- click here to visit their site.

Here is an example of a basic Pet Trust.
