PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!
VOLUNTEER TO HELP OUR SENIOR PETS
We still have a few volunteer positions that must be filled.
Here is the schedule of vacant shifts.

All of the positions are fillable on a weekly or fortnightly basis. Contact me at volunteer@housewithaheart.com for position descriptions.  Thank you so much to all our volunteers for recommending us to your friends, neighbors and co-workers. Most volunteers come to us through word of mouth so thank you for championing the Sanctuary!

All Sewn Up?

We are urgently seeking a third seamstress to join Sharon and Alice who work diligently on our many mending and sewing projects. This position can be filled at the Sanctuary, where we have a sewing machine, or at your home if you are already have a set-up. As you know, we go through tons and tons of doggie diapers and belly bands which constantly need mending and bed and sofa covers which routinely require patching.

Welcome!

Please join me in welcoming the following new volunteers to our family!

Liz Lou who will be our Thursday morning Kennel Assistant until she leaves for Texas and hopefully after she returns. Thank you Liz!

Madison Chase, from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County who is doing some dog walking during her summer break.

Koby Clark who is doing some much-needed landscaping for us under Pat's direction.

Thank you Liz, Madison and Koby!

We have hired a dog trainer..

..to 'adjust' some of our more unruly pups.   So please heed Sher's guidance and follow her guidelines. It is very important to ignore any demanding barking pups. When Happy is clamoring for attention please ignore him -- give him time to self-soothe.  Once he has been lastingly calm, you can acknowledge him and pet him.

I know it's painful for many of us to not want to soothe him but think of him as a human infant who needs to learn to self-soothe, for the peace and happiness of ALL Sanctuary residents.

The Importance Of Grooming Senior Dogs And Cats

You may think grooming a dog is a luxury.  It is in fact a necessity.

Good grooming is a key to keeping dogs and cats healthy.  Regular grooming keeps our pups and kitties comfortable and allows us to spot health problems before they become serious.

As humans, when we have a knot or tangle in our hair, we just brush it out. Pups cannot do that by themselves. They rely on us to keep them free of painful mats that pull on their skin. Routine brushing also removes dirt and stimulates the blood supply to the skin, resulting in a healthier skin and coat.

Our groomers also act like veterinary investigators, because grooming allows them to look for lumps, masses and injuries which may develop into life-threatening conditions.

Click here for an excellent guide to why grooming is so vital.

Please consider joining our current grooming team of Adiva, Susan Y., Kat, and Kathy. We will train you!
