PORTABLE MULTI MEDIA CARTS FOR DPM-WThe carts are ready! Deer Path Middle School-West recently launched the use of two self-contained multi-media carts that will help transform teaching and learning in District 67. The 7th and 8th grade students will now have access via the carts to a variety of technology tools necessary to create student-driven projects for any curricular concept. The carts include 10 iPad minis, 10 MacBook Pro computers, a subscription to Adobe Creative Suite, 8 Canon VIXIA Mini video cameras with memory cards, 2 Go Pro Hero3+ video cameras and 2 portable pop-up Green Screens. FRIENDSHIP BENCHStudents at Sheridan School recently dedicated a Friendship Bench that was the result of a grant submitted last year by a Sheridan student. The bench, made out of 100% recycled plastic and painted in bright, engaging colors, is covered with words of encouragement and positive character traits. The bench will serve as a cheerful place to meet new friends, as well as spend time with old friends, all the while enriching the District's emotional wellness curriculum by encouraging kindness and friendship among the students.
CHEROKEE INQUIRY BLOCK TEAMWORK PROJECTHere is a wonderful example of how teachers continue to use a prior year's grants to enhance the students' educations. Fourth grade students at Cherokee were recently asked during the Inquiry Block to find the answer to the essential question: How do successful teams behave? While searching for the answer to this question they conducted home interviews, wrote to experts, listened to guest speakers, read picture books, looked at famous quotes, read articles, and participated in team building challenges. All the research culminated in an informative presentation to parents and community members using projectors and wireless microphones provided by previous grants.
