Good evening, this is Nathan Saunders, president of the Washington Teachers' Union. Thank you for voting in the D.C. special election. Your support was critical to council member Anita Bonds' victory and clearly demonstrated our orchestrated political power.

 

Last Friday, the D.C. City Council Committee of the Whole conducted a public hearing on the Teachers' Retirement Amendment Act of 2013.

WTU President testifies in support of 2013 Teachers Retirement Act



On Friday, April 26th, WTU President Nathan A. Saunders testified before the DC Council Committee of the Whole in support of the Teacher Retirement Act of 2013.
 
Currently, the teachers who were intended to benefit from the early retirement provision of the collective bargaining agreement-excessed, permanent status teachers, with at least 20 years of service and a performance rating of effective or higher-cannot qualify for involuntary retirement.

D.C. Summer school switches to invitation-only

Kay Frazier knows her grandson, a third-grader, struggles in reading. That's why she has always signed him up for summer school in the District, figuring he needs the extra help.

But this year, for the first time, D.C. public schools' summer program is enrolling students by invitation only. And Frazier's grandson wasn't invited.
