The New Option Two

The Washington Teachers' Union and the District of Columbia Public Schools have agreed to replace the early retirement provision of their Collective Bargaining Agreement with a DCPS-funded Voluntary Employees' Beneficiary Association ("VEBA") trust fund for teachers. DCPS has agreed to fund the trust annually with $1.7 million through Washington, D.C.'s fiscal year 2018.

D.C. will invest more in schools next year, Gray says

By: Emma Brown, The Washington Post

D.C. Mayor Vincent C. Gray (D) wants to give the city's schools more money next year, raising the basic allocation for each student from $9,124 to $9,306.

The 2 percent raise in per-pupil funding, which is the main source of dollars for both traditional and charter schools, would match the two-percent increase that schools received this year.
