DCPS announced a school consolidation plan that will affect 15 schools. WTU influenced decision makers to ensure teachers with effective or higher evaluation ratings will continue employment.

D.C. City Council Committee on Education Chair David Catania has released his blueprint for the newly formed committee, in which he identifies committee goals and general focus areas for education in D.C., which include accountability, transparency and achievement.

WHAT'S HAPPENING IN DCPS
DCPS' Consolidation and Reorganization Plan: What this means for teachers?

District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) Chancellor Kaya Henderson announced the final school consolidation and reorganization plan which will close 15 neighborhood schools, 13 at the end of the 2012-2013 school year and two at the end of the 2013-2014 school year.

"The Washington Teachers' Union (WTU) has been fervently advocating for teachers, students and families who will ultimately be displaced. We will minimize the plan's impact, while stabilizing teachers, students and schools.

Flamboyan Foundation Family Engagement Partnership 
 
The Flamboyan Foundation is now accepting proposals for its Family Engagement Partnership which provides intensive coaching, technical assistance and funding to schools that want to strengthen their family engagement practices.

Principals of schools applying for the partnership must attend a mandatory information session prior to submitting an application. Applications for the Family Engagement Partnership are due by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 14, 2013.

FFT offers teachers up to $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for a team to do a summer professional learning experience of their own design (most travel internationally). Open to PK-12 teachers.
