Ask a Curator Day is Back! On Wednesday, September 17, curators from around the world will be answering questions from the public via Twitter for Ask a Curator Day. And Ohio's Historical Society curators will be joining in on the fun!

 

  

The Dayton League of Women Voters is sponsoring a special program "Political Polarization and Voter Rights in Ohio" on Wednesday, at the University of Dayton River Campus from 6 to 8 p.m. The program focuses on the redistricting process in Ohio and features Catherine Turcer, a policy analyst with Common Cause Ohio.

Champions of Hope. This will take place at Miami Valley Hospital on September 18. They will salute and celebrate five remarkable people for their achievements in the struggle against cancer. Proceeds will benefit Miami Valley Hospital cancer patients. 

 

Join at Christ Episcopal Church for the Dayton International Peace Museum's annual Cool Soups luncheon and celebration on Friday, September 19, from 11:30 to 1:00 p.m. Favorite soups, such as red gazpacho, and a new green grape soup will be on the menu, as well as new vegan choices. Ashley's breads, luscious tomato salads and homemade desserts will complement your soup choices.

 

Fairy Fun Day - September 20th, Pre-register today for this fun outdoor event for children ages 4 - 10 and their special adult! Children are invited to dress like fairies and come over for Fairy Fun: Fairy Face Painting, Embellish your own Fairy Dream Catcher, Make your own Fairy House, Take home a live Fairy Garden miniature plant (after you paint the pot), Fairy Tea Party refreshments served

 

 

Beekeeping 101: Getting Started Workshop on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. From beeswax to honey, discover how such a small insect makes a mighty impact. Learn about the importance of honey bees and what goes on inside a hive. Find out what equipment is needed and aspects to consider before getting started.

 

Feast For Peace; a potluck dinner with an overnight.

We supply the main dishes (venison and veggie chili w/cornbread & pasta). You bring a vegetable side dish, salad, or dessert from American Indian culture. After dinner, we will have some live music, a campfire, with drumming; and maybe crafts and a movie. Saturday, September 20th, after 6:00 pm, eat at 7:00 pm. SunWatch Indian Village.

 

 

Front Street Studios to launch Third Sundays studio and gallery art hop as part of 3rd on Third Outdoor Market. Sunday, September 21, 11 AM - 4 PM.

 

Montgomery County is holding a Tire Buyback Event from 11 AM to 4 PM on September 21st at the Solid Waste Transfer Station (in Moraine). Each tire you turn in will get you $2 (instead of your having to pay your tire company to take your old ones away).

Miami Valley poets take notice: the Dayton Metro Library welcomes submissions in its annual Poetry Contest now through Septem ber 30. Residents of Montgomery and adjoining counties are eligible to enter. There are three age categories: Teen (age 13-18), Adult (age 19-59) and Senior (age 60 and over).

60 years ago, Grandpa Nowak had a vision of the Virgin Mary in his Buffalo, New York barbershop and had an unusual statue of her made to commemorate the miracle. His family has faithfully tended to his quirky shrine. That is until a deathbed confession knocks them for a loop in this hilarious hit. 

 

 

Culture Connects 20/20. The cultural planning process now has its own dedicated website.

It provides a portal to review transcripts of meetings that have taken place over the summer. It also gives every citizen in the region the opportunity to post their own comments in response to the issues emerging from these community conversations.
