 PAULA'S PERSPECTIVE

Is That So?

This ancient story is worth repeating.

The Zen Master Hakuin lived in a town in Japan. He was held in high regard and many people came to him for spiritual teaching. Then it happened that the teenage daughter of his next door neighbor became pregnant. When being questioned by her angry and scolding parents as to the identity of the father, she finally told them it was Hakuin, the Zen Master. In great anger the parents rushed over to Hakuin and told him with much shouting and accusing that their daughter had confessed that he was the father.

All he replied was, "Is that so?"

News of the scandal spread throughout the town and beyond. The Master lost his reputation. This did not trouble him. Nobody came to see him anymore. He remained unmoved. When the child was born, the parents brought the baby to Hakuin. "You are the father, so you look after him." The Master took loving care of the child. A year later, the mother remorsefully confessed to her parents that the real father of the child was the young man who worked at the butcher shop. In great distress they went back to see Hakuin to apologize and ask for his forgiveness. "We are really sorry. We have come to take the baby back. Our daughter confessed that you are not the father."

"Is that so?" is all he would say as he handed the baby over to them.

There are many layers of wisdom in this tale. You might see yourself as the daughter, the parents or the Master.  You might notice the suffering associated with attachment and the possibility of freedom from non-attachment. It doesn't matter if this story is true or not true. In it is the great secret to living above the weeds...above the tangle of fear, un-forgiveness, holding on, worry and judgment.

The secret is this: our self worth rises from within. It is so.

Peace always

Paula

WOW!

BELIEF

Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it.  Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many, or merely on the authority of your teachers and elders.  But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason, then accept it and live up to it.

YOU ARE LIMITLESS

To finally understand what being co-creator of your life really is produces a feeling of wonder.  You find you are not out there alone, doing it all by yourself, nor is God out there doing it all without you.  There is a harmony in the coming together of your own 'separate,' delightful, expansive destiny, mingling and alive within the Divine power that is constantly urging you toward greater understanding of who you are.  What makes your life so enjoyable is your sense of participation in the co-creative wonder in which you  have choices.  Co-creation is vision-making.

How do you align with the part of you that knows no limits?  Constantly permeating your consciousness is an energy field with a vaster sense of things, that longs to blend with your limited view to help create something excitingly wondrous for your life.  Your job is to keep asking for that Vaster part of you to bring Light to what you are thinking, feeling or doing.  Ask it to guide you.  When it does, fear is no longer relevant because there is a sense of  knowing that whatever is before you can be instantly experienced as something appropriate.  You don't have to get rid of anything.  You don't have to throw out any part of your life.  With whatever is present, that Power and you, in wonderful co-existing collaboration, have the ability to blend, create and bring to your conscious mind the knowledge that in your awareness is the knowing that all is absolutely as it should be.  All things can be used to bring you into the moment to allow you to experience who you are.  Now, as you are, you are what you seek.  You are of the One. Now!
