Canyon Lake Activities
Spotlight: Visitor's Guide to Canyon Lake---
just in time for summer!

Canyon Lake, Texas
Summer Activities for All Ages
Think of any summer holiday--Memorial Day, Fourth of July or Labor Day and you immediately think of spending time at the lake.
And, what better lake to spend time at than at Canyon Lake. A lake that is one of the most scenic lakes in Texas-- a lake surrounded by hills and limestone bluffs and filled with pristine blue water. Yes water! So many lakes in Texas have not weathered the drought as well as Canyon Lake.
Canyon Lake is perfect for boating, sailing or kayaking. The two marinas on the lake, Cranes Mill Marina and Canyon Lake Marina, have plenty of equipment to rent: their jet skis to pontoon boats to ski boats with accessories (tubes, trick skis, etc.) will make your day on the lake as pleasurable as possible.
If you would like to have your children learn to sail, Lake Canyon Yacht Club offers a number of summer camps or check out Hill Country Yacht Club or South Texas Sailing for adult sailing lessons and regatta schedules.
But once you've had your fun at the lake-what to do? Here are some suggestions. In Canyon Lake, there is The Heritage Museum of the Texas Hill Country where you can see dinosaur tracks believed to have been made by the Acrocanthosaurus and Iguanodon during the early Cretaceous period. Or if you are in the mood to play golf, there is the local Canyon Lake Golf Club.
If hiking or biking is your preference, there are a number of local hikes across the dam or along the Guadalupe River to enjoy or if you haven't had your fill of being in the water, there is of course the option of floating down the Guadalupe River.
Only minutes away is the culturally rich town of New Braunfels. Founded in 1845 by the German Prince Carl of Solms-Braunfels, the city has become a vacation paradise for many in Texas. Blessed with two rivers, the Guadalupe and the Comal, the city has a number of parks and recreational facilities.
The nationally known Schlitterbahn Water Park, fed by the Comal River is sure to be a crowd pleaser. With water chutes, lazy river floats and wave pools, there is something there for everyone.
If you want to get out of the heat, go to the McKenna Children's Museum or visit art galleries or go hear some great live music at local venues such as the Phoenix Saloon.
On Thursday nights in the summer, it's Concerts in the Park. Head out to Landa Park Dance Slab armed with your blanket or lawn chairs to hear a free music concert. It's a great time to relax and enjoy beautiful Landa Park. Click here to read more.

Texas Hill Country Lake Levels
Update as of 6/6/13
 | | Aerial View of First Mountain |
With the ongoing drought conditions in Texas, lake water levels in the Texas Hill Country are a concern for everyone, particularly those looking to purchase property on or near a lake. Low water levels can have a negative impact on both recreation and property values.
Access to the lake can be restricted by the closing of boat ramps and sometimes swim areas. And watering restrictions, besides being a nuisance, can also have a negative effect on the value of your landscaping.
Note: Boat Ramp #1, located minutes from First Mountain, is deepest boat ramp on Canyon Lake. It has remained opened in recent years despite the drought.
Canyon Lake
Located on the Guadalupe River 16 miles NW of New Braunfels in Comal County. Water Oriented Recreation District of Comal County (WORD), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), and Texas Parks and Wildlife Dept.
