My recent interview with entrepreneur, Shelley DeMerchant, (see below) reminded me of an important theme that comes up frequently with the leaders that I coach and interview ~ working through hesitation. It's these hesitations and limiting beliefs that can stand in the way of success and progress. Let me share a story about my own limiting belief (one of them) and the strategies I used to work through it.
 
The idea that some of my beliefs about myself were limiting my growth and potential was, as you can imagine, very unnerving. At the same time, this awareness was incredibly liberating. As I started to focus on my limiting beliefs I also started to notice the evidence I was gathering that helped to 'confirm' them.

Shelley DeMerchant has always had a weakness for shoes and now shoes are her business. After working on the Point Lepreau project with Atomic Energy of Canada, Shelley kicked off her work boots in 2011 and jumped into the entrepreneurial world with both feet.

She opened The Urban Shoe Myth - a woman's shoe and handbag boutique in Uptown Saint John - with her husband, Nick DeMerchant, and set about providing Saint Johners with a unique shopping experience. You can feel as if you're shoe shopping in Toronto or New York without having to leave the province.
