A LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Hello MS Families,
I hope this letter finds you well.
Thank you for believing in our Mission and supporting your scholars each day! I can't believe that we have been in school for five weeks. It has been great getting to know your children. We are partners, and in order to make our mission a reality, we must continue to work together. If you ever have a question, please feel free to contact me.
Cultural Skills Classes
This year scholars did not choose their electives. Instead, scholars will have the opportunity to take each elective for one quarter. Students will have the opportunity to dive deeper into each cultural skill class: Health & Fitness, Art, Music and Drama.
Homework at the MS:
Scholars write down their homework in their agenda books each night and will have homework from most of their classes each night. Please review your scholar's agenda book to ensure that they have completed all of their homework and put forth their best effort.
After School & Before School Junk Food Shopping
We encourage all scholars to come straight to school in the morning because we have noticed that many scholars are buying junk food before they come to school. All junk food will be confiscated and returned to students at the end of the day. Please also encourage your scholars to go straight home after school. They will have a lot of homework to complete, and they should hurry home and get started!
Work Harder Block:
We have an additional period in our schedule called the "Work Harder" block.  During this time, students will be accelerated or remediated in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies and Science.  Scholars receive small group instruction that is tailored to their needs. This time may also be used for special projects, such as National History Day.
MS Sports:
First, let me apologize if there has been any confusion regarding the practice time of MS Sports. In most cases, the practices will be held during the times that are stated in my weekly robocall. However, there may be instances when coaches will change the times of the practices due to scheduling conflicts. Please be assured that coaches will notify parents in advance of any schedule changes. If you have any questions, please reach out to Brent Brass, our amazing Athletic Director, at [email protected] .

In Service of our Shared Mission,

Myron Long
Principal

IMPORTANT REMINDER
FOOD RESTRICTIONS/ALLERGIES
This is a reminder that E.L. Haynes is a peanut and shellfish free school. At the middle school, we are also banana-free. Additionally, we do not allow junk food. Please remember to not send peanuts, shellfish, junk food, and bananas to school. This will provide a safe and healthy environment for all staff and students. Thank you!

However, if you prefer for your child to be accompanied by an adult to practice a designated adult will accompany them to their practice location. These students should meet in in the cafeteria immediately after school and will leave at 4:30 pm sharp.

SPORTS CANCELLATIONS
If practices or games are cancelled because of inclement weather, during the weekdays, the front desk at the MS will be informed by 3:30pm and we will post this information under the heading "Today's Cancellations" on www.GoHaynes.org.
Practices are also subject to change for various reasons. Coaches will inform players of any changes.
