PRINCIPAL'S LETTER

Peace Mighty MS Families,

I hope this letter finds you in peace and filled with love.  We had a blast at our MS Pajama Jam!

Can you believe that it is already May? It seems like yesterday was the first day of school! At any rate, our year is slowly coming to an end. It's important that we remain committed to our school values: Be Kind, Work Hard and Get Smart. We believe that our families play an integral role in helping us reach our Mission. To that end, we still need our parents to continue to support us by engaging in the following activities until the last day of school:

  • Check to see if your scholar has done their homework
  • Continue to ensure that they are reading their independent reading book each night for at least 30 minutes
  • Monitor their progress by reviewing and signing their Mountain Lion Note
  • Ensuring that they arrive on time each day

There is No Finish Line when it comes to our expectations. Scholars will be expected to complete all of their homework and classwork until the end of the school year.

End of Year Testing

  • Please ensure that scholars are here by 8:45 am
  • Please ensure that scholars get a good night's rest
  • Please ensure that electronics aren't brought to school during your scholars testing window

RE-ENROLLMENT REMINDER

The deadline for re-enrollment is this Saturday, May 16.
Staff will be on hand at our Kansas Ave. campus from 10am to 5pm to accept paperwork.  Computers will also be available for families who need to complete Infosnap Online Registration.  Please refer to your enrollment packet and checklist for required documents.  Residency in particular should be reviewed thoroughly.  The school is following strict guidelines from the Office of the State Superintendent and cannot accept anything other than the items listed.  Also, a reminder that the parent/guardian providing the proof of residency must be the one submitting that proof in person.  Please contact the main office if you have further questions or concerns. Thank you!

EXTENDED DAY PROGRAMS

During the month of May, students in EDP will be learning all about Science. To conclude the month, After-School will be having a Science Fair over the course of 3 days. Please find the dates and the corresponding grade level science fair dates below:

  • Tuesday, May 26th- Prek & K
  • Wednesday, May 27th-1st & 2nd
  • Thursday, May 28th-3rd & 4th

It's that time of year again, SUMMER INTERSESSION!!! Registration packets will go out on Monday, May 18th. Please note that due to construction, we will have limited offerings on Kansas Ave for Prek-2nd, and 3rd and 4th grade classes will be housed on our Georgia Campus. Please remember to turn in packets ASAP so your child(ren) get a spot! Lastly, please remember to pay all balances (EDP fees and or Late fees), because if there is a remaining balance your child(ren) will be unable to register. Thank you in advance!

SPORTS AWARD CEREMONY

The MS Sports Award Ceremony will be Wed, June 10, 6pm - 9pm in the GA Gym. Like last year, we will honor our student athletes with a potluck style dinner. Families will be contributing a dish for the evening. MS Student Athletes will be bringing home invitations/flyers for parents to RSVP and indicate what Potluck dish they will bring. If you have any questions, please contact: Brent Bass Director of Athletics, Health & Fitness at [email protected] or 202-667-4446 ext 3030.

DRAMA TEAM PERFORMANCE

Our Middle School drama team will be showcasing Peter Pan on May 29th at 7:00 PM and May 30th at 4:00 PM in the Elementary School stage. This superb adaptation captures all the magic and charm of everyone's favorite story, Peter Pan. Join us, for one or both of the shows!

END OF YEAR CELEBRATION

Come out and celebrate the end of another school year with a cook-out, multicultural cuisine, live music and dance performed by talented Haynes students, and much more!

The goal for this event is to celebrate the rich diversity of the Haynes community. We invite ALL families to make a dish to share that reflects your family heritage, and invite you to volunteer to grill or lead a fun activity!

To sign up to volunteer on May 30 or if you have questions, contact Cherrelle Swain at [email protected] or 202-667-4446 x 1112
