August Haynes Happenings

Welcome Back

Today, the halls of E.L. Haynes are freshly painted. The floors are gleaming. Most importantly, students and faculty are abuzz with excitement on our first day of school. Our youngest students have a staggered start this week. To see more first-day-of-school pictures and other Haynes happenings, visit us on Facebook.

Mission Monday Tours

Join us on the first Monday of each month for our Mission Monday program. Enjoy a cup of coffee, meet others with a shared interest in education, learn about our programs, and see our fantastic teachers and students in action. Upcoming tours are at 9:00 AM at our Kansas Avenue Campus on the following dates: September 8, October 6, November 3, and December 1. To attend one of these fun mornings, RSVP to Julie Green.

Building a Professional Learning Community: Top Five Lessons Learned
E.L. Haynes launched the DC Common Core Collaborative in 2011 to support DC's transition to the Common Core state standards, thanks to a $1.4 million Race to the Top grant from D.C.'s Office of the State Superintendent for Education. In this video, educators share the top five lessons they learned through this important initiative.

Your Gift Sustains Us

Make giving to E.L. Haynes easy by making a monthly donation by credit card via the E.L. Haynes website. For the cost of just one fancy cup of coffee each month, you support our mission of college success for every student. To get started, click here.

E.L. Haynes Hosts Second Annual Wellness Day

In June, E.L. Haynes High School hummed with an energy not often felt in the last days before summer vacation. Now in its second year, Wellness Day convened 23 community service providers presenting 46 workshops ranging from Zumba and Capoeira to meditation and tips for grocery shopping on a budget.
