Happy Earth Month!

We're used to going to all ends of the earth to find great ingredients, but usually its tea.  When we switched the sweetener in Honest Kids from organic cane sugar to organic fruit juice, we had to lock in a large enough supply of juice to last us for the year.  As you'll read in the article below, our Quality Assurance Manager David Reichlin had to spend a week in Turkey and then in Argentina (along with more than a dozen rabbis) in order to make sure the juice was properly harvested and stored.  We realize there's some irony in flying around the world in order to purchase organic products (which we believe are good for the planet), we're still operating within that contradiction between sustainability and a consumer economy.  I hope that this Earth Month helps you find meaningful ways to reduce your footprint.

Honestly yours,

Seth

Get Your Recycle On

April is Earth Month, so while we may put more focus on recycling this month, the reality is that recycling is important every day.  The national recycling rate is just above 30% for beverage containers, and we'd like to help improve on that number.  In 2012, Honest Tea debuted The Great Recycle, our national recycling initiative in-person at New York City's Times Square and online.  The event featured a 30-foot tall blue recycling bin and we invited people to trade in their plastic containers for items such as t-shirts, yoga mats, beverages, bicycles, and more.  Since then, our bin has ventured on a journey across the country from Seattle to Rochester, West Palm Beach to Boston. Go Green with Your Gear

We have a few promotions going on in your favorite grocery stores to celebrate Earth Month and highlight ways to be a better steward of the planet.  Check your local retailer to see what offers are happening in your neighborhood--you could earn reusable bags, smartphone covers made from recycled plastic bottles, backpacks from Patagonia, and bike giveaways from our friends at Citizen to help promote a healthier planet and keep you active. Throw an Honest Tea in your new pack while you enjoy a commuter-friendly bike ride to start spring right! Visit your local grocery store to see what offers are available in your area!

Journey to Discover Honest Ingredients

How far will you go for honest ingredients and delicious taste?  We'll go a long way--specifically, Argentina. David Reichlin, our very own Quality Assurance Manager from Honest Tea HQ, recently traveled from Bethesda, MD to the vineyards in Argentina to visit the farmers who grow our kosher, organic grapes.  Dave toured the vineyards to see the process from collecting the grapes from the vines to crushing them into the fruit juice that contributes to your favorite Honest Ade and Honest Kids variety. Read more about his journey HERE.

SXSW

Where is your favorite spring getaway? The Honest Tea-m just wrapped up its annual trip to Austin, Texas for a week of great music and southern cuisine at SXSW, the nation's largest music, film, and interactive conference. We had a blast partnering with Rachael Ray for her Feedback party, a weeklong celebration of music and performances from artists such as Macklemore & Ryan Lewis as well as Kenny Loggins and Delta Rae. Thousands of guests were wowed by Rachael's excellent signature recipes and of course, organic refreshment provided by Honest Tea! Check out a full set of photos of our week on our Facebook page!
