Honest Tea Newsletter

September 2012
|
This month Honest Tea employees celebrated our 3rd annual Service Day. 13 teams of Honest Tea employees mobilized across the country to volunteer from food pantries to community health offices to organic farms; we engaged in the kind of physical work that we don't normally get to do during the week. My team helped restore a hiking trail in Cabin John Regional Park that was devastated by a recent rain storm. I found myself stripping off bark from fallen trees. The related logs will be used to build berms in an effort to divert flooding which could further erode the trail. I will be the first to admit that there are far more skilled bark strippers out there, including our VP of Operations, Ed Castro. But I don't know many folks who enjoyed the work more. I am already looking forward to taking my family for a walk to show them "our" 30 yards of trail. There's no question that service, especially when sweat equity is involved, creates stronger bonds of ownership and commitment to a community.
Honestly yours,

CommuniTEA Service Day
Every year our Tea-m looks forward to a day when we head outside, roll up our sleeves and get a little dirty volunteering where we live. And since our staff is located in cities across the country, there are opportunities for service across the country. We worked on volunteer projects in 13 cities, including Boston to Austin, and DC to Seattle. A total of 336 hours were served over the course of one long day. We prepared nutritious meals at the Community Kitchen of West Harlem, restored parks with San Francisco Parks & Recreation, and read with kids about environmental stewardship at the Tacoma Nature Center. Melissa, our Midwest Region Marketing Manager said: "Volunteering at the Mid-Ohio Food Panty was a humbling experience. It was great being hands on and helping put a smile on deserving faces." We encourage you to find a local volunteer opportunity near you! To check out how you can get involved with our partners click HERE!

The Great Recycle Visits Rochester
Last weekend the Great Recycle project continued its nationwide tour. The big blue recycling bin started its journey in New York City in April, visited Seattle in August and just debuted in Rochester, NY at Greentopia Festival. Festival attendees were invited to bring empty bottles to be properly recycled in exchange for cool swag such as t-shirts and longboards. The result? Rochester brought a total of 8,645 bottles to recycle, and thousands of renewed commitments were made for recycling. The 30 foot tall recycle bin catalyzed many great conversations with fans regarding our nation's recycling rate and the opportunity everyone has to make a positive difference. We continue to be inspired by the dedication and passion that people have for recycling, and thank everyone who has participated in our recycling initiative! Wonder what city we'll visit next? Stay tuned for more!

Raspberry Fields Forever
Pick up the October edition of Women's Health to see our very own Raspberry Fields Tea featured as one of the magazine's 125 Best Packaged Foods For Women. The review says, "What's on the bottle is as refreshing as what's inside...maybe that's why each sip tastes like it came from a pitcher of just-picked berries.." We'll cheer to that!

Fan of the Month
We're cracking open a bottle of Honey Green Tea for a toast to our September fan of the month. This month's award goes to Jim R who sent us a metaphor describing his love of Honest Tea:
"You strive for FLAVOR without adding useless sugar-based calories. This is like a comedian who does not use off color language when he/she entertains---- It's more difficult but the results are way better."
Thanks Jim! If you'd like to be considered for Honest Tea's fan of the month please reach out to us on Twitter, Facebook or at [email protected]
