How to Talk to Your Kids About Art

Winter has been a mess this year but we do see signs of spring! The St Patrick's Day Parade which marches by in front of the gallery will be held on March 15th. This is always a fun event.

We have a new look to our monthly e-news and hope that you enjoy it. This is suppose to be more mobile friendly. Please let us know if you have suggestions about how to improve it or if you think we should go back to the original format.

How to Talk to Your Kids About Art
Le Premier Bal, lithograph by Garciela Rodo Boulanger.

I've just read an article by Carey Wallace concerning talking to your children about art. It was well written and emphasized that the adults did not need to know anything about art in order to do this. Art gives the child and the adult something that they can learn about together.

She goes on to suggest possible opening questions for each age group. There are no right or wrong answers. The wonderful thing is that it will open up a new way of learning about how your child thinks.

So, why else is it important to introduce your child to art?  "Studies show that when they get into art, they're more empathetic and more involved with their communities. They have higher career goals, better critical thinking skills, and better academic outcomes. Yet schools are increasingly finding art is squeezed out of their curriculum in favor of more "useful" subjects."
