The 2015-16 Annual Giving Campaign has launched...
and this year we have added a special boost: a Giving by Grade Challenge...
The grade with the highest giving level WINS $200 per classroom for extra supplies and activities! Donate before November 13, 2015, and help your child's grade level WIN!
DONATE TODAY at www.LLEF.org
The Annual Giving Campaign is the Foundation's mission-critical fundraising effort, directly supporting the LLESD's operating budget to help provide "excellence in education" at our schools. This year, we are asking for a donation of $2,000 per student. If you are unable to give this amount, any amount that is meaningful to your family will help us reach our goal of 100% community participation.
We highly encourage - and greatly appreciate - gifts made before December 31, 2015 to assist the School Board with their budget planning. Thank you in advance for your support!

From the Principal
Dear Las Lomitas Families,
Fall is in the air, which means that Halloween is not far behind. I'd like to share our plans and how you can help make this a safe, special day for children.
The students love to dress up in a variety of costumes, parade at school and then take to the streets, knocking on doors in search of special treats. On Friday, October 30, we will have our Halloween parade at 10:45 a.m. on the blacktop. We ask that children not wear masks (they impede vision), bring weapons or wear blood as any part of their costume. Children will be seated in a large oval on the blacktop with their class. Three to four classes will parade at a time so all can see and be seen. We ask that parents stand outside the oval. Please do not wear masks.
I want you to understand the school's policy regarding photographs. At any school event, you should only take photos of your own child. No photos of children other than your own may be shared over the internet, either by email or posted on websites. Posting photographs of children other than your own on photo-share sites such as Shutterfly or social media sites such as Facebook and YouTube is not allowed. Some families have specifically asked that their child's photo not be distributed in any way other than in the classroom. It is our legal responsibility to honor this request.
We ask you, too, to please not send candy to school for snack or lunchtime. With your support and cooperation, I'm sure we'll have another safe and colorful Halloween at Las Lomitas.
Until next time,
K-5 World Language Discussion
The Board will be discussing various options for the possible implementation of a K-5 World Language Program.
I hope you enjoy the talent and skills that your children are learning in Mrs. Lampert's music program. Please keep in mind that you may have to find parking in the surrounding neighborhood in order to keep the drop off/pickup queue free.
Come listen to Miss Chalfant and me read a couple of books on Wednesday evening, October 28 at 6:00.
MINIMUM DAY INFORMATION
We will be on a minimum day schedule November 9, 10, 12, and 13. November 11 was intentionally skipped as it is Veteran's Day, a school holiday. On the four minimum days, all students will arrive at 9:00 and be dismissed at 12:20.
To minimize the chaos this creates please note:
- All students will wait in designated locations by grade.
- Drivers must stay in their car and pull through the pick-up lane.
- Display name cards in the window.
- Leave dogs at home.
- Bicyclists must walk bikes until you are away from the front gate area.
- Traffic and parking enforcement will be present. Park in designated locations only.
- Students may not ride on a bus other than their regular bus for a play date during minimum days. Only regular riders may ride. We are at capacity. Pick up play dates at the flag pole.
- If students go to the bus for a play date, we will bring both students (regular rider and guest) to the office for pick up.
- Buses may be a bit late as it takes longer to load and unload on minimum days.
With only 11 days to go until the PTA transforms Cano Hall into the Las Lomitas Book Fair, we are busy making signs, creating wish lists, and setting schedules. Most importantly, with the help of our library teacher, Teri Chickman, we are ordering a fantastic supply of books for our Las Lomitas student readers. Thank you, Teri!
With such an active library user base, our book collection needs continual updating. The Book Fair helps to do this through books you purchase to donate directly to the library, and by sharing the proceeds from the books you purchase and take home.
Please come to the Book Fair and help Teri keep our students, teachers, and staff well-read!
We invite you to shop before, during after the soccer games on Saturday October 24th
. This is a great day for you to shop for the holidays without your kids. Stop by before or after the Halloween parade on Friday, October 30th.
We are also open Wednesday October 28 from 6-8
for PJ night with guest readers Principal Alain Camou and Vice Principal Christy Chalfant. A fun-filled tradition for all Las Lomitas families to enjoy books...
This one week event is solely run with volunteer power so please help sign-up to help us

support their children's teachers directly. All the teachers and specialists at Las Lomitas have been invited to create a "wish
The Apple for the Classroom program is a way for parents to
list" of items that would help to further enrich their classrooms. Wishes may include art supplies, gift cards, books, or donations toward a special activity or field trip.
To view the lists, please visit our website:
Once at the site, select the list you want to view. Teachers' lists are divided into two sections, so you can choose to bring an item directly to the classroom or you can choose to make a donation via PayPal.
Thank you for supporting our teachers and enriching your children's experience at Las Lomitas.
Please continue to clip, collect, and submit box top coupons found on many favorite brands such as Betty Crocker, Nature Valley, Kleenex, Huggies, Ziploc, and so many more. Las Lomitas earns 10 cents for each box top submitted, and these really add up! Box tops can be turned in any time to the cereal box in the Las Lomitas office.
Write your student's name and room number on the bag containing the box tops to be eligible for our prize drawing which will be held October 15. Thank you for supporting our school!
Fridays are Spirit Days at Las Lomitas!
Contact the Spirit Wear coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
School directories are coming in October
The school directory will be released in early October. It was held up this year due to some technical difficulties but we are working as quickly as we can to get it out to you.

BASKETBALL SEASON and REGISTRATION
Registration for the LLL Basketball Season is now open and closes at midnight on Thursday, October 15th.
This is a very popular winter sport that is open to all students in 3rd through 8th grade. Register early before divisions are full.
We will register 8-10 players per team. Once a division is full (based on number of coaches), we will start a wait-list and only add more players if we get more coaches to form another team. Register early and volunteer to coach!
Evaluations are the third weekend in October and coaches announce their teams a week later. Practices begin in mid-November, games begin in early December and the season ends in early March. Division coordinators will contact parents with more information towards the end of October. Additional information about the basketball program can be found on our website: http://laslomitasleague.com/
Coaches Wanted! We are a parent-run basketball league and we need coaches. You do not need a lot of experience to coach; we can pair you with a more experienced coach. We also provide an excellent coaching clinic. Please contact Kathleen Liston if you are interested in coaching.
Mark your calendars for the following dates:
- Wed, Oct. 21st at 6:30pm: Mandatory Coaches Meeting in the La Entrada library. We will finalize practice times and review rules, expectations, evaluations, etc.
- Oct. 24th& 25th (Sat/Sun): Player Evaluation Days (schedule to be determined). Evaluations are used strictly to divide each grade level into fair and balanced teams. Your child's grade/division will be assigned a specific day and time closer to the date. Please check back here or on the LLL Basketball webpage in mid-October.
Halloween Costume Drive
Please help the families of Haven House Family Shelter have a great Halloween week, participate in their school and many other Halloween events, by donating new or gently used costumes
in all sizes (infant through adult). The Girl Scout troops of Las Lomitas and La Entrada are working together with Suzanne Mitchell (LLESD Technology Director) to collect costumes
at both schools. (The bins will be out at both schools until 10/21)
Haven House, part of Innvision/Shelter Network, offers emergency and transitional housing for homeless families. Each night almost 100 kids (infants to teens) call the shelter home while their parents are working to move them back to permanent housing. Your donation of Halloween costumes will offer that these families can participate in the fun of the season at a very difficult time in their lives!
Both school sites support and encourage your support.
Music Informances are coming up!
Please come watch your child's music informance. This is an opportunity to see what we're working on in music class.
Music informances are scheduled for the week of October 19-23 in room 37.
Your child's specific time is listed on the music website. Click on the following link and then take time to look around the new music website.
