Dear Las Lomitas Families, It was wonderful to see so many of you at the Auction on Saturday. What a fabulous event! On behalf of all of us at Las Lomitas, I want to thank the entire group of fabulous parent volunteers that made this event happen. The Foundation's gift each year enriches the educational program for all of our students. You truly make a difference!
Our Dance Festival is this week on Wednesday, May 20 at 9:30. Parking will be challenging, so please walk or bike to the event if possible. Remember, it is important that we are good neighbors, so please do not block driveways. I'm sure it will be worth the extra walk to school to see the children dance. It is one of my favorite Las Lomitas events.
Until next time, Sue

Dance Festival
| The Dance Festival is Almost Here! In case you haven't heard, all classes are working on dances during their Physical Education classes to prepare for our annual dance festival. The festival will take place on Wednesday, May 20 at 9:30 on the blacktop. Your children are working hard and are excited to show you their dances. Put on some sunscreen (we're anticipating great weather), grab your chairs, and come on over for an hour of fun. No need to sign in at the office. Hope to see you there!

May is Allergy Awareness month! In the United States, 1 in 13 children are affected by food allergies, many are life-threatening. Food allergy reactions occur when the body's immune system mistakes a harmless food protein for a threat and attempts to attack and rid the body of the intruder. This can lead to a serious medical emergency called anaphylaxis, which is life-threatening and needs to be treated immediately! As a school and a community, we need to be aware of the potential dangers of food and other allergies. In addition to food allergies, anaphylaxis can occur in people who are allergic to insect stings, medications/drugs, latex (found in things such as balloons, gloves and other common everyday items) and, in rare instances, can also have an unknown cause or be exercise-induced after ingesting an allergen. Please remember to always check with your teachers or the school nurse before sending treats or food-based projects to school. Safety is our priority with all of our students! It is also important to teach children the importance of not sharing food with their classmates and to wash their hands before and after eating to prevent possible exposure to allergens. For additional information, please check out the Food and Allergy Research and Education site (F.A.R.E at http://www.foodallergy.org/home) and check out their Allergy Awareness month newsletter: http://www.foodallergy.org/document.doc?id=384
