CHECK YOUR CALENDARS!!!  THIRD GRADE FIELD DAY WILL BE HELD WEDNESDAY, JUNE 10!!!

From the Principal

Dear Las Lomitas Families,

Welcome back! I hope you had a restful vacation.

The next Morning with the Principal is scheduled for this week on Wednesday, April 29 at 9:00 in Cano Hall. Incoming Principal Alain Camou will be present to share a bit about his background and answer questions about CAASPP (see below). As always, please bring questions or topics you'd like to discuss. These mornings are designed to provide a venue for open communication between home and school. We hope to see you there!

The third grade classes begin their first sessions with CAASPP (the new state test for the Common Core State Standards) on May 4th. This new assessment is administered online. The students have been trying sample problems in the computer lab and on Chromebooks these past few weeks to become comfortable with the technology and test format. A big thank you goes out to the Third Grade Team, Alain Camou, Deborah Roden, Bobbi Thielemann and Suzanne Mitchell for all of the planning prior to implementation. The students will take part in the testing process through mid-May. Please be sure to read class newsletters so your child is present on testing days.

As the weather gets warm, please be sure your child wears sunscreen - hats are encouraged at lunch and on the playground.

Until next time,
Sue Sartor

From Mr. Camou

Dear Las Lomitas Families,

I am excited to announce that we have named the new Assistant Principal for Las Lomitas. Christy Chalfant comes to our community highly recommended for her work as a teacher and educational leader. She has spent the last 12 years in the Santa Clara Unified School District teaching first through third grades, providing intervention as a Reading Recovery teacher, and supporting her school site as teacher in charge. She comes to us with a strong background in early literacy and has supported her colleagues as a BTSA mentor.

Christy and I will be coordinating calendars between now and the end of the school year in order to find opportunities for her to meet the faculty, our families, and in her own words "especially the children!" She is eager to begin her career as an administrator with the supportive Las Lomitas family and I am confident that her skillset will bring a great deal of value to our school and community.

From my own experience in transitioning to Las Lomitas, I am assured that we will embrace Christy into our community and that you will all help me in welcoming her.

Sincerely,

Alain Camou
