Dear Las Lomitas Families,

By now you've learned that Alain Camou was appointed to succeed me as Principal next year. The faculty, staff and I are very pleased that he is willing and able to take on this role. We will post the Assistant Principal position shortly and hope to have someone in place prior to school closing. We'd like the new Assistant Principal to have time to attend a faculty meeting or two, join us at Open House and visit the classrooms before students leave in June. Alain and I will work collaboratively to ensure a smooth transition. I will continue to serve as Principal and plan to have everything in order before I take my leave on June 30th.

The weather has been very changeable lately ~ cold and cloudy one day and almost 71º the next! When the weather gets warm, please be sure your child wears sunscreen - hats are encouraged at lunch and on the playground. We will get the awnings up over the lunch area once we are sure the rain and wind is over. They wreak havoc on the awnings. Also, remember to follow our dress code and send your child to school in appropriate clothes for learning. If students arrive wearing flip-flops, we will call home for someone to bring shoes to school. Please remember that your child is going to school, not to a play date. Below is an excerpt from our School Handbook:

Appropriate dress is necessary for all students in order to learn... Short shorts, mini skirts, halter tops or very short tee shirts are not permitted. At least a 4" inseam on shorts should be the guide...Hats, caps and bandannas are not to be worn indoors at school. All shoes, sandals etc. must have a strap or come up past the heel (no flip-flops or shoes with wheels). This prevents them from falling off children's feet during all playtime and P.E. classes.

I have received some letters with important information regarding placement needs for the next school year. As noted in prior articles, these letters must be received by April 15th in order to be considered.

Finally, many of you are dog lovers; so am I. However, dogs and school are not a good combination. The School Handbook clearly states:

Please understand that for health and safety reasons, dogs and pets are NOT allowed on campus during school hours unless prior arrangements have been made with staff - this includes dismissal time. All animals or pets that are brought to school for instructional purposes must be on leash or in closed carriers.

Please help us keep the campus clean and safe for your children. I appreciate your support and cooperation.

Session Requests for 2015-2016 ~ RETURNING FAMILIES ONLY

If you have a current kindergarten or first grade student and wish to move to first session next year, you must put that request in writing to Mrs. Sartor. She began taking requests on January 1, 2015. You may email her at ssartor@llesd.org. Your requests will be placed on a wait list in the order received.

New family requests are not accepted until February 1, 2015, allowing our returning families to have priority on the wait list.   If you are on this year's wait list, you must make a new request for next year. We do not "roll over" the list from year to year. Please call Mrs. Sartor if you have any questions about the session request process.

REMINDER:  All current Ladera kindergarten students will be moved to second session in first grade.  You must submit a request in order to be eligible to be placed in first session for the 2015-2016 school year.   

Kindergarten/New Student Registration

Kindergarten registration is now open.  You may come to the office to initiate the process between 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.  Please see the website for details.  If you wish to be placed in first session next year,  you must put that request in writing to Mrs. Sartor.  She will begin taking requests on February 1, 2015 at 10:00 p.m.  You may email her at ssartor@llesd.org.  Your requests will be placed on a wait list in the order received. 

If you are accompanying your child to a LLL class during school hours, please drop your child off and wait up by the flag pole until the class is over. Parents should not be loitering by classrooms or by the playground during instructional hours (9:00-3:30). It is also important that adjacent classes are not disturbed at any time. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our campus a positive place for learning.

Dear Moms and Dads,

Thank you for your partnership in enriching the school experience for all students.  Your time and talent are essential ingredients in making our school truly outstanding.

This week when many of you come to campus to meet with teacher, we ask that you think about how you can support your child, his/her classroom, and the entire school.  We are actively recruiting for the PTA and committees this month and we hope that you will consider joining other parents and contributing whatever you can to our school.

Music Informances are coming up!                                                    

Please come watch your child's music informance. This is an opportunity to see what we're working on in music class.  

Music informances are scheduled for the week of April 13-17 in room 37.

Parents of Third Graders:

As you are well aware, third graders will be off to La Entrada in the fall! Several activities have been organized to address questions that you and your child may have about their "new school."

In an effort to make the transition to La Entrada comfortable for everyone, we invite you to attend the following events:

ORIENTATION FOR PARENTS OF THIRD GRADERS - Wednesday, April 1st

All parents are invited to an orientation session on Wednesday, April 1st from 6:30 - 7:30 PM in the La Entrada Library. Shannon Potts, Principal and La Entrada staff will provide information about LE and the 4th grade program in particular, so that your transition will be smooth and comfortable. The evening will allow ample time for your questions. Refreshments will be served. Please Note: This evening is for parents only. Students will visit La Entrada for their own special orientation the next day.

THIRD GRADE VISIT TO LA ENTRADA - Thursday, April 2nd

On Thursday morning, April 2nd, third graders will take a field trip to La Entrada. The students will already have corresponded with 4th graders via a pen pal program. They will get to meet their pen pal and participate in an orientation planned by La Entrada staff and students to help your child become more comfortable and excited about his/her new school.

LA ENTRADA OPEN HOUSE - Thursday, May 21st

La Entrada teachers will hold Open House in their classrooms on Thursday, May 21st beginning at 6:30 PM. Incoming 4th graders and their families are welcome to attend this event. It's a great opportunity to meet the fourth grade teachers: Mrs. Mylod, Room 41, Mrs. Behrens, Room 43, Ms. Bicknell, Rm 44, Ms. Carter, Room 70, Ms. Fordham, Room 71, Ms. Cummins, Room 72, Mrs. Nixon, Room 62 and Ms. Logie, Room 64. (NOTE: Next year's teacher assignments have not been determined as of this date.)
