From the Principal

Dear Las Lomitas Families,

Last week was wonderful! On behalf of all the faculty and staff, I want to thank all of you, and the children, for making us all feel so appreciated. Please know that we appreciate all of YOU
for making Las Lomitas such a special place for learning. I do believe we have a mutual admiration society going on here!

We are heading into some very busy last few weeks of school!

  • STAR testing wraps up this Friday. I am so very proud of our students for putting forth their best effort!
  • The Dance Festival is May 15th at 9:30 a.m. The students are practicing and costumes are under construction. It is sure to be a real treat!
  • Open House is May 23rd. Cano Hall will be open at 6:30 for the Art Show and classrooms open at 7:00 p.m. The students are putting the final touches on published books and works of art.
  • The Spring Sing is May 29th at 9:30 a.m. Mrs. Lampert is rehearsing with the classes their songs. Be prepared to sing along!
  • Third Grade Field Day is June 10th.  Get ready for lots of fun!
During these end-of-year events there will be over a thousand people on campus. Please be sure to be courteous to our neighbors and park in designated spaces; do not block driveways! I encourage you to bike or walk to the events if at all possible.

Finally, I'd like to take this opportunity to give a big thank you to our yard supervisors: Marie Summers, Kaitlin Chernikov, Grete Santucci, Jessie Phillippe and Maria Melendez. They have done a wonderful job this year supervising lunch and keeping a close eye on your children. If you happen to see them in the hallways during these events, please let them know how much they are appreciated.

Until next time,

Sue Sartor

Principal

School News

From the School Nurse

Parents, May 12-16 is "Food Allergy Awareness Week". The week is dedicated to educating others about food allergies, a potentially life threatening medical condition. This is especially important as the prevalence of food allergies is increasing among children. In the US, approximately 1 in 13 children have food allergies.

Please see the informative brochure from the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network (now called FARE) and share with your children. It is designed to help students learn how they can be a friend and help protect their classmates who have food allergies.

Thank you for your support,

Kelly Muenzen

Members of Las Lomitas Brownie troop #61718 have been diligently working since the fall of 2012 to learn what they could about the homeless.  After several months of learning and votes, the girls are looking forward to hosting a pizza and craft party with the children of Haven House at the end of the month and will be organizing a collection of new and used pajamas and books.  You are invited to hear and learn more about their project before and after school on Wednesday, May 15. The girls will be using a portion of their "cookie sales" to pay for the pizza and craft but they need your help too.  Please consider donating new and used pajamas and books for the children of Haven House.  A box for the collection will be near the flag pole from May 15- 22.   If you have any questions please feel free to contact Anna Plume at aplumemom@yahoo.com

News from the Sequoia Union High School District

A message from James Lianides, Ed.D. Superintendent of the Sequoia Union High School District.

Dear Parents, Please click on the link to read two letters, one in English and one in Spanish, with information about the projected enrollment growth faced by the Sequoia Union High School District.  The first part of the letter reviews the key projections for each of our high schools.  The second part of the letter announces that the Board will be considering certain boundary changes as part of the plan to address the growing enrollment.  The Board recently came up with a set of tenets that would be the basis of looking at potential adjustments in the boundaries.  Prior to proceeding any further, we wish to hold a series of community input meetings to go over the enrollment projections and the tenets from which further boundary discussions will be based.  Since your families will be the ones most directly affected by any change, we felt it very important that you have an opportunity to attend these meetings.
