PTA News

Thank you!  Thank you!
One of the most exciting Las Lomitas events for new (and even returning) families is the Kindergarten Roundup.  This year was another great success led by our co-chairs Diane Bradley and Emily Foley.  Thank you to both of you and your incredible team of volunteers who made this such a special day for our future students and their families!

I also want to say a very belated THANK YOU! to Diana Sunshine and her team of volunteers. They hosted a fun and extremely interesting Science Wonders event at the end of March.  You all did an amazing job!

Sincerely,

Cindy Tipton and the entire PTA Board

Las Lomitas Appreciation Week, May 6th-10th

Celebrating our All-Stars!

Let's celebrate our amazing school community, staff and parent volunteers alike, this May 6th - 10th! Each day the Las Lomitas staff will find their lounge decorated and stocked with something yummy, but their favorite thing is always the personal touch from each individual child--which is where you come in!  In order to make this a very special week, we would like you and your children to contribute in the following ways:

On Tuesday, May 7th - Have your child(ren) bring in a flower from your garden for each staff member they would like to appreciate.  Vases will be made available in each classroom, in the office and in the Staff Lounge.

On Thursday, May 9th - Have your child(ren) write notes of thanks to each teacher and staff member that you would like to appreciate. Mailboxes will be available for these notes at Flagpole and at the bus drop off. Please have your children make a "thank you list" and start writing and drawing now!

PLEASE JOIN US! On Friday, May 10th - The PTA will celebrate our incredible staff and parent volunteers by coming together for a special luncheon catered by Quadrus Catering!  Mark your calendar!! Please plan to attend this celebration! To RSVP for the luncheon scheduled for 12:05 - 12:50 p.m., please visit us here!

We realize this is a lunch to appreciate our incredible volunteers, but in order to include the staff we need volunteers to help monitor the lunch area, 1-3 play ground, kindergarten play ground, and front office. Please consider volunteering on Friday, May 10th, between 11:45 a.m. - 1:15 p.m.  Sign up here. Thank you!

FundANeed Our Fund-A-Need this year is to outfit a Media Lab at La Entrada and an iPad Cart at Las Lomitas to promote digital literacy.  The media lab will be designed to inspire learning, creativity, and critical thinking through experimentation with digital and traditional media.  Students will have access to new electives like Digital Animation and Digital Photography, as well as have enriched core courses.  At Las Lomitas, the iPad cart will give young learners access to a variety of educational content through a new medium.  Fundamentally, your support in Fund-A-Need will help prepare our students for high school, college, careers and beyond.  Please invest in technology resources for our children's campuses-donate here or at the auction on May 18th.

From the Principal

Dear Las Lomitas Families,

STAR testing begins today, May 6th for second and third grade students. Please be very quiet in the hallways and at the flagpole area during school hours. Classes will be testing throughout the day, and it is imperative that we limit distractions. Thank you for your cooperation.

I was pleased to learn that many of you read my article about our dress code last week! I know you did, because I received some questions about how the guidelines are written in our Handbook. To clarify, hats and caps may be worn outside, but not inside buildings. I actually encourage you to send a hat with your child during this warm weather. Also, halter tops and tank tops are acceptable if they are "modest". My intent is to ensure that students are dressed appropriately for a learning environment. Thank you for your support. We'll make these updates for next year's Handbook.

The last Morning with the Principal for this school year is this Wednesday, May 8 at 9:00 a.m. in Cano Hall.  Superintendent Lisa Cesario will join me to discuss facility planning and we can continue our discussion about school safety and go over any other topic that is on your mind. I look forward to seeing you.

Until next time,

Sue Sartor

Principal

News from the Sequoia Union High School District

A message from James Lianides, Ed.D. Superintendent of the Sequoia Union High School District.

Dear Parents, Please click on the link to read two letters, one in English and one in Spanish, with information about the projected enrollment growth faced by the Sequoia Union High School District.  The first part of the letter reviews the key projections for each of our high schools.  The second part of the letter announces that the Board will be considering certain boundary changes as part of the plan to address the growing enrollment.  The Board recently came up with a set of tenets that would be the basis of looking at potential adjustments in the boundaries.  Prior to proceeding any further, we wish to hold a series of community input meetings to go over the enrollment projections and the tenets from which further boundary discussions will be based.  Since your families will be the ones most directly affected by any change, we felt it very important that you have an opportunity to attend these meetings.
