From the Principal

Dear Las Lomitas Families,

It was wonderful to see all of the incoming kindergartners at the Kindergarten Round-Up last Friday. It always amazes me that the school year passes so quickly! We'll be opening the doors to these young learners in no time!

This week I have a few reminders for you. As the weather gets warm, please remember to follow our dress code and send your child to school in appropriate clothes for learning. If students arrives wearing flip-flops, we will call home for someone to bring shoes to school. Please remember that your child is going to school, not to a play date. Below is an excerpt from our School Handbook (page 109 in the Directory):

Appropriate dress is necessary for all students in order to learn. Students should not wear clothing that advertises drugs, alcohol, tobacco, nor with suggestive or vulgar language or gestures. Informality is acceptable, but immodesty is not. Short shorts, mini skirts, tank tops, halter tops or very short tee shirts are not permitted. At least a 4" inseam on shorts should be the guide. The wearing of pants below the waistline is also not acceptable. In addition, no gang related clothing may be worn at school. Hats, caps and bandanas are not to be worn at school. All shoes, sandals etc. must have a strap or come up past the heel (no flip-flops or shoes with wheels). This prevents them from falling off children's feet during all playtime and P.E. classes.

STAR testing begins May 6th for second and third grade students. Please be sure your child arrives on time and is well rested. Please schedule appointments outside of school hours. It is difficult for students to make up the tests. Thank you for your cooperation.

Finally, many of you are dog lovers; so am I. However, dogs and school are not a good combination. The School Handbook (page 96 in the Directory) clearly states:

Please understand that for health and safety reasons, dogs and pets are NOT allowed on campus during school hours unless prior arrangements have been made with staff - this includes dismissal time. All animals or pets that are brought to school for instructional purposes must be on leash or in closed carriers.

Please help us keep the campus clean and safe for your children. I appreciate your support and cooperation.

Until next time,

Sue Sartor

Principal

Las Lomitas Appreciation Week, May 6th-10th

Celebrating our All-Stars!

Let's celebrate our amazing school community, staff and parent volunteers alike, this May 6th - 10th! Each day the Las Lomitas staff will find their lounge decorated and stocked with something yummy, but their favorite thing is always the personal touch from each individual child--which is where you come in!  In order to make this a very special week, we would like you and your children to contribute in the following ways:

On Tuesday, May 7th - Have your child(ren) bring in a flower from your garden for each staff member they would like to appreciate.  Vases will be made available in each classroom, in the office and in the Staff Lounge.

On Thursday, May 9th - Have your child(ren) write notes of thanks to each teacher and staff member that you would like to appreciate. Mailboxes will be available for these notes at Flagpole and at the bus drop off. Please have your children make a "thank you list" and start writing and drawing now!

PLEASE JOIN US! On Friday, May 10th - The PTA will celebrate our incredible staff and parent volunteers by coming together for a special luncheon catered by Quadrus Catering!  Mark your calendar!! Please plan to attend this celebration! To RSVP for the luncheon scheduled for 12:05 - 12:50 p.m., please visit us here!

We realize this is a lunch to appreciate our incredible volunteers, but in order to include the staff we need volunteers to help monitor the lunch area, 1-3 play ground, kindergarten play ground, and front office. Please consider volunteering on Friday, May 10th, between 11:45 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. Sign up here. Thank you!

News from the Sequoia Union High School District

A message from James Lianides, Ed.D. Superintendent of the Sequoia Union High School District.

Dear Parents, Please click on the link to read two letters, one in English and one in Spanish, with information about the projected enrollment growth faced by the Sequoia Union High School District.  The first part of the letter reviews the key projections for each of our high schools.  The second part of the letter announces that the Board will be considering certain boundary changes as part of the plan to address the growing enrollment.  The Board recently came up with a set of tenets that would be the basis of looking at potential adjustments in the boundaries.  Prior to proceeding any further, we wish to hold a series of community input meetings to go over the enrollment projections and the tenets from which further boundary discussions will be based.  Since your families will be the ones most directly affected by any change, we felt it very important that you have an opportunity to attend these meetings.
