FundANeed Our Fund-A-Need this year is to outfit a Media Lab at La Entrada and an iPad Cart at Las Lomitas to promote digital literacy.  The media lab will be designed to inspire learning, creativity, and critical thinking through experimentation with digital and traditional media.  Students will have access to new electives like Digital Animation and Digital Photography, as well as have enriched core courses.  At Las Lomitas, the iPad cart will give young learners access to a variety of educational content through a new medium.  Fundamentally, your support in Fund-A-Need will help prepare our students for high school, college, careers and beyond.  Please invest in technology resources for our children's campuses-donate here or at the auction on May 18th.

THANK YOU TO ALL 4TH GRADERS for donating $4,890 to the Foundation through the 4th grade Math Facts Marathon!  Their hard work has earned the school district significant funding for the next school year.

From the Principal
Dear Las Lomitas Families,

A few weeks ago I wrote about our lunch-time composting program. Last week, there was a wonderful article published online at InMenlo.com. You can find the article here!

Thank you to Donna Hall and Monica Albers for spreading the good news about our school! If you are interested in being part of the Green Team next year, please contact Monica Albers.

Several parents attended the Morning with the Principal last week to discuss school safety. We reviewed the school and district's response to make campuses more secure for serious emergencies. We also collected many suggestions to improve security at dismissal, especially in the flag pole area. Alain and I will share these suggestions with the faculty and determine what changes can be made to make traffic flow smoothly and reduce the possibility of an abduction. All are welcome to email Alain Camou or me with suggestions. The next Morning with the Principal is scheduled for May 8th at 9:00 a.m. We can continue this discussion at that meeting.

Until next time,

Sue Sartor

Principal

Let's celebrate our amazing school community, staff and parent volunteers alike, this May 6th - 10th! Each day the Las Lomitas staff will find their lounge decorated and stocked with something yummy, but their favorite thing is always the personal touch from each individual child--which is where you come in!  In order to make this a very special week, we would like you and your children to contribute in the following ways:

Earth Day 2013
In honor of Earth Day 2013, the Las Lomitas Green Team (aka trash ladies) wants to challenge our families to send trash-free lunches from home during the week of April 22 through April 26. Currently, we have two trash cans at lunch every day, our goal is to only compost and recycle lunch items.  Here are some great ideas to help reach our goal:

--reusable food containers
--reusable water/drink bottles
--reusable utensils
--wax/paper bags
--reusable lunch boxes
--no plastic (i.e. ziploc) wrappers

Help us with our fun challenge in honor of Earth week!
