From the Principal |
Dear Las Lomitas Families, Last December we read the horrible news about Sandy Hook School in Newtown, Connecticut. All of us were concerned about our students' vulnerability in a similar incident. I had personal conversations with many parents about this. This Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. I will have a Morning with the Principal to discuss steps we've taken to improve safety at school, as well as discuss general campus security. Assistant Principal Alain Camou will also attend to share information with you. We are interested in hearing your concerns and suggestions on how to improve campus safety. This Morning with the Principal was originally scheduled to be held in the evening. Due to poor turnout at the last two evening meetings with me, I have rescheduled it to be in the morning in hope that more of you will be able to attend. The meeting will be held in Room 22, our new Science Resource Center.
I also want to ask if any of you are interested in serving on our School Site Council next year. The School Site Council is a group of faculty and parent representatives who meet over the course of the year to address areas of program quality under the School Based Coordinated Program. The Council's primary responsibilities are to review and monitor our Single Plan for Student Achievement and School Improvement Program budget.
Each member serves for two years. We meet once a month on Wednesdays from 3:00-4:30. This year's faculty representatives are Anna Pong (K), Michelle Donecho (1st), Catherine Wedge (2nd), Robbie Christensen (3rd) and Sue Sartor (Principal). Parent representatives are Artis Montegue, Laurie Sobel, Eric Ver Ploeg, Rebecca Deutscher and Andrea Turner. If you are interested in joining this group of dedicated parents and educators who monitor the school plan, make sure the budget supports the plan and care deeply about children and education, please join us. This is a wonderful opportunity for parents to work with and learn from teachers and the administration. If you would like to serve on the School Site Council or learn more about it, please contact me at 854-5900 ext.261 or by email at ssartor@llesd.org. Until next time, Sue Sartor
