A Wonderful Year for Science Wonders   Bravo to our young scientists.  We had over 110 participants this year!  Our participants wondered everything from "How was the moon formed?", "Does air have weight?" to "Which are the fastest and slowest animals?"
Any unclaimed projects have been put on the side counter in Cano Hall.  Please pick them up as soon as possible.

Thank you to all pf the wonderful volunteers who helped make the event a success: Monica Albers, Jill Berman, Janelle London, Wendy Malecek, Tatiana Morantes, Allison Spinner, Debra Ver Ploeg, Tracy Williams and Gerald Wluka.  A special thanks goes to Melissa Almgren, Katie Boland, Jonna Hunter, Chris Jones and Jill Ohline for going above and beyond to make this event so special.

From the Principal
Dear Las Lomitas Families,

Welcome back! I hope you had a restful spring break because April is here and we are on the fast track! There are so many exciting activities planned in the next several weeks, be sure to keep a close eye on the Lion's Roar and website calendar so you don't miss out on anything!

Third-to-fourth grade transition activities start on Wednesday when a panel of expert students and teachers come to classes to share information and answer questions. On Thursday parents will attend an evening presentation and on Friday all third grade students will travel to La Entrada for a tour. Third and fourth grade teachers work collaboratively to ease the transition "jitters" for both students and parents. I hope all third grade families will attend the informational meeting on Thursday evening, April 4th

Incoming Kindergarten students will enjoy the Round-Up at the end of the month. If you know families with children who will be eligible for kindergarten in the fall, encourage them to pick up a registration packet and attend this event. There is a parent orientation scheduled for the evening of April 25th. Our Kindergarten teachers have prepared a wonderful, detailed presentation. I look forward to meeting some of our new incoming class of students on April 26th!

Grade level team members continue to collaborate together on the California Common Core Standards (CCSS). Each grade-level team will be off-site for three days of in-depth study to "unpack" the standards. The 3rd grade team had a very productive three days before Spring break and 2nd grade will be out this week. Our cadre of substitutes is rising to the task of keeping the classes running smoothly. If you are interested in learning more about CCSS, click here

for a PDF with a list of resources.

As you can see, there is never a dull moment at Las Lomitas! Thank you to all of you who help making all of these events and activities possible.

Until next time,

Sue Sartor
