Apple for the Classroom
applelogo Are you searching for the perfect holiday gift for your child's teacher?

The Apple for the Classroom program is a way for parents to support their children's teachers directly.  All the teachers and specialists at Las Lomitas have been invited to create a "wish list" of items that would help to further enrich their classrooms.  Wishes may include art supplies, gift cards, books, or donations toward a special activity or field trip.

To view the lists, please visit Apple for the Classroom.

Once at the site, select the list you want to view. This is where you can then "pick an apple" -- teachers' lists are divided into two sections, so you can choose to bring an item directly to the classroom or you can choose to make a donation via PayPal.  All donations are tax deductible.

Feedback is appreciated. Please contact Julie Chandik (jrchandik@gmail.com) with questions or comments about the Apple for the Classroom program.  For questions about the Apple for the Classroom website, please contact webmaster@laslomitaspta.org.

Thank you for supporting our teachers and enriching your children's experience at Las Lomitas.

A reminder to all Committee Chairs and Event Volunteers-

We are experiencing a high number of requests for email communications to parents this year. Excessive use of email is not only a burden on Head Room Parents who must forward these messages on to parents, but also results in inconsistent distribution (not all emails are forwarded in a consistent manner) and email fatigue for parents. Please use the Lion's Roar as your primary means of communicating with the Las Lomitas community. Email should be used as a last resort for important information that didn't make it into the Lion's Roar by the weekly deadline. As a reminder, the Lion's Roar deadline is Wednesday at noon for the following Monday's publication. Please plan ahead and help us reduce the number of emails. Thank you for your help!

shopping
Need to order holiday cards on-line?  Plan on doing holiday shopping on-line?    Or do you shop year-round at on-line sites such as Amazon?  If you answered yes to any of these questions, please go to www.llefshopping.com first and then click through to your favorite on-line retailers.  Shopping at sites like Tiny Prints, Minted and Amazon through the Foundation website portal will trigger donations for our District from these retailers.  It's free money for our schools!  Don't forget to tell family and friends to shop through this site as well (anyone can help earn money for our District)!

Dear Las Lomitas Families,
Our focus area for professional development this year is the California State Common Core Standards. Alain Camou wrote an article in a previous Lion's Roar about the new standards .  Please click on this link  for information about a special parent education event especially designed by Curriculum and Instruction Director Deborah Roden to inform you about the standards and answer your questions.  I'm sure it will be time well spent!

Until next time,

Session Change Requests for Next Year
Session Change Requests for 2013-2014

If you have a current kindergarten or first grade student and wish to move to first session next year, you must put that request in writing to Mrs. Sartor. She will begin taking requests by letter or email starting January 1, 2013. You may email her at ssartor@llesd.org. No requests will be honored prior to January 1st.

Do not wait until kindergarten registration in late January to make this request!  New family session requests are not accepted until January 28th, allowing our returning families to have priority on the wait list.   If you are on this year's wait list, you must make a new request for next year. We do not "roll over" the list from year to year. Please call Mrs. Sartor if you have any questions about the session request process.

Lost and Found

The Lost and Found will be donated Friday, December 14, 2012.  Please come have a look!  Our closet is VERY FULL!!!!!
Emergency Broadcast System Test
Did you receive your test of an Emergency Broadcast System?
Last Wednesday we ran an "emergency broadcast system test" which should have sent a message to your home phone, to your cell as a text message, and to your email.  If your home phone IS your cell phone, then you would have only received 2 messages.  If you did not receive all these messages, please stop in your child's school office to update your contact information.

Our plans are to broaden our use of this Global Connect system as a key communication tool for important updates and information.  Your contact information needs to be current to receive these.  We will not be distributing this personal information for any other purpose.  We will announce shortly when we'll be running a test with out bus riders, which will then provide you text updates on bus runs.
