Dear Las Lomitas Families,
Thank you to all of you who were so patient and followed our safety procedures during last week's minimum day dismissal. It is remarkable that we were able to get 680 students safely into cars, buses, bicycles or hand in hand with an adult within 15 minutes of dismissal! I appreciate your support!
I hope you all have a restful Thanksgiving holiday enjoying time with family and friends.
Until next time,
Sue Sartor

Session Change Requests for Next Year
| Session Change Requests for 2013-2014
If you have a current kindergarten or first grade student and wish to move to first session next year, you must put that request in writing to Mrs. Sartor. She will begin taking requests by letter or email starting January 1, 2013. You may email her at ssartor@llesd.org. No requests will be honored prior to January 1 st. Do not wait until kindergarten registration in late January to make this request! New family session requests are not accepted until January 28th, allowing our returning families to have priority on the wait list. If you are on this year's wait list, you must make a new request for next year. We do not "roll over" the list from year to year. Please call Mrs. Sartor if you have any questions about the session request process. |
Lost and Found
| The Lost and Found will be donated Friday, December 14, 2012. Please come have a look! Our closet is VERY FULL!!!!!

Junior Great Books |
Junior Great Books
Dear Third Grade Parents:
An exciting part of the third grade year at Las Lomitas is participating in the Junior Great Book (JGB) program in the spring.
The goal of the program is to work with students (using a JGB book filled with engaging stories) and encourage them to explore the different possible meanings within the stories. Students discuss questions with parent volunteers and learn that there can be several good answers. They support their discussions with evidence from the text.
Students will also learn note-taking strategies such as highlighting, underlining and writing notes and questions in the margins of their books. For this reason, students are encouraged to purchase their own JGB book to use and to keep. Students who do not purchase their own book can borrow a used PTA copy and use post-it notes for their note taking. Place your online order or download a printable form here.

Please note: Outreach is available for this program. Please contact Alain Camou, Assistant Principal, at 854-5900 for more information.
If you have any questions about this program or book order, please contact Catherine Norman at catherinenorman@comcast.net or Diane Spath at dianespath@hotmail.com.

Message of "Thanks" from the PTA
Dear Families,
We have so much for which to be thankful, yet we often forget to express our gratitude when caught up in our hectic daily activities. We wanted to take a moment to thank all of you who have so graciously volunteered your time, talent, and/or financial contributions to the many PTA programs this year!
Thank you for your generous book fair donations to the library, classrooms, and Willow Oaks. Thank you for making Halloween so special with all of the classroom parties and treats. Thank you for all of the volunteer time you have dedicated so far to the library, classroom, hot lunch service, composting, fun fridays, teacher treats, memory book, book fair, family picnic, website & Lion's Roar, adopt-a-book, spiritwear, hospitality, art notecards, apple for the classroom, boxtops, directory, bulletin boards, bilingual buddies, food for thought, health services, picture day, holiday workshop and read-a-thon (the last two are coming soon)! Thank you!
We wish you a fun and relaxing Thanksgiving break with your family!
Sincerely,
The PTA Board

It went so well that we cancelled prep day #2. We do still need your grocery bags (with handles) as we are short by about 200. Please drop them off in the office. Thank you! A reminder to all Committee Chairs and Event Volunteers-
We are experiencing a high number of requests for email communications to parents this year. Excessive use of email is not only a burden on Head Room Parents who must forward these messages on to parents, but also results in inconsistent distribution (not all emails are forwarded in a consistent manner) and email fatigue for parents. Please use the Lion's Roar as your primary means of communicating with the Las Lomitas community. Email should be used as a last resort for important information that didn't make it into the Lion's Roar by the weekly deadline. As a reminder, the Lion's Roar deadline is Wednesday at noon for the following Monday's publication. Please plan ahead and help us reduce the number of emails. Thank you for your help!

Art Note Cards are Coming Home! The Art Note Card project was onece again a big success! Teachers will receive mini-grants for arts and music enrichment from our proceeds. Thank you for supporting the arts at Las Lomitas and thanks to our budding artists for creating such remarkable works of art!
Special thanks to all our volunteers who helped with the drawing sessions in the classrooms, tallying orders, and packaging the note cards. We would also like to thank former district parents, Kris Bobier and Tom Coates, for their stupendous support and contributions to this project. We couldn't have done it without you! Much appreciation, as always, to Carol and Monica for all their assistance in the office.
This year our printing was done by American Printing in Menlo Park.
