LEID Products Keeps Officers Safe with SmartGuard Handgun Safe
Secure, tamperproof handgun storage unit attaches to furniture in law enforcement and government agencies, integrates with BACS Asset Management System providing safety and accountability

SmartGuard Handgun Safe

Auburn Hills, MI -March 6, 2014 - LEID Products, LLC., the leader of electronic locker and cabinet storage with biometric asset protection and control, today introduced a new product, the SmartGuard Handgun Safe, to the enhance the BACS Asset Management System used for armory storage. The SmartGuard Handgun Safe safely secures a single firearm in a biometrically accessible convenient tamper-proof under desk mount storage unit. The new handgun safe is managed and configured through the BACS Kiosk to ensure proper asset accessibility, tracking and maintenance. Developed at the request of a federal agency, the new product is now available to law enforcement and government agencies that require such weaponry.

Similar to the BACS SmartRail Gun Rack, Electronic Access Cabinets, Key Cabinets and Electronic Modular Access Units, the SmartGuard Handgun Safe is managed and configured from the central BACS Kiosk so an administrator can enroll users, manage access permissions, view logs for tracking and ensure proper maintenance and accessibility. The SmartGuard is accessed through a separately mounted biometric reader, which identifies authorized users via fingerprint to unlock. While the SmartGuard is configured and reports its logged events back to the central location, it is also capable of offline operation. The unit will still allow access to the storage location by a previously authorized user in the event of an interruption in communication to the central location. A lockout feature, established by the administrator, limits the number of transactions that can occur without communication to the central location. The SmartGuard unit has a single cable input for both power and communication, utilizing a single Cat5 cable and the emerging PoE (Power over Ethernet) standards.

The BACS System eliminates potential liability while reducing the negative cost repercussions of human error in asset management. The system's next generation technology powers security, control, safety, accountability and reliability in reporting. The system can be used in any organization that requires access to rifles, tasers, other armory assets and ammunition. The system has been implemented across industries where assets are of utmost concern within an organization's property - i.e. military facilities, crime and research labs, law enforcement department, college and university campuses and now airports.

"The SmartGuard Handgun Safe is a product that our team has been working on for quite a while," said Sam Hoff, President of LEID Products. "We've always envisioned a more flexible single asset storage unit for handguns that would maintain the same level of security and reporting capabilities as the BACS locker units."

LEIDing Edge Spotlight on LEID Products Senior CAD Designer,
Mark Schofield

Mark Schofield

LEID Products' Senior CAD Designer, Mark Schofield, has a tremendous passion for building at work and at home. Originally hired 13 years ago by Patti Engineering, the sister company to LEIDProducts, Mark has transitioned into playing a significant role on LEID Products' team; his contribution has been instrumental to the company's success!

"Mark's dedication to LEID Products has been very valuable," said Sam Hoff, president of LEID Products. "He works seamlessly with the entire team, resulting in our whole operation being much more efficient." In addition to Mark's role as senior CAD designer, Mark also spends time working on locker/gun rack builds and installs for LEID Products.

In fact, Mark has recently traveled to the Middle East for a large BACS armory installation. "It was a great experience traveling overseas to install our BACS System; people were very accommodating to our needs. The installation went very well, although, I was there longer than anticipated as they wanted me there for the arrival of the weapons, which had been delayed by the local government. Coming back into the U.S. through customs, I was surprised when I gave my reason for the trip to the TSA officer, he said, 'so you are with the company that has that advanced biometric armory system,' and he knew that we were installing it in another country!"

Mark grew up in Burton, Michigan and now resides in Grand Blanc with his wife of more than 17 years, Amy. Amy is a fourth grade teacher at the Kearsley Elementary School in Flint, MI. Mark earned a degree in Drafting and Design from Mott Community College. A natural athlete, Mark has coached high school tennis and completed several triathlons. He is an avid runner and has run the Bayshore Marathon.

Mark Schofield Chopper 2 To challenge his passion for building, Mark recently built a custom motorcycle and his story was featured in the 2013 February issue of The Horse Back Street Choppers. Mark contributed an article to the magazine with a detailed explanation of the build. "I had only been riding for about a year when a friend at work convinced me to build a chopper. He was very helpful because he had done one a few years earlier. After talking to him it seemed that buying an old Harley and modifying it would be the best way to go," Mark explains in the story. Over the past year his bike has been running well, and he has added a few things here and there. This winter he has been working on a new headlight with a GPS speedometer in it! He came across a 1974 FXE Super Glide on Craigslist at a price he explained to be too good to be true. Check out the before and after photos of his ride. Very impressive! Mark's bike is featured in the magazine's 2014 Calendar.
