21st Century Evidence and Property Control
|
Bring your evidence and property control into the 21st century. Those 1950's style lockers - are they really doing the job effectively? Probably not; unfortunately, this highly important area of a police department's facility is usually lagging the rest of the department in technology. The hard work your officers and detectives put into collecting evidence to bring criminals to justice should not be lost on increasing defense challenges based on inadequate chain of custody. In this digital age, your options for managing evidence have caught up with technological advances.
It boggles the mind, how technology has transformed our lives, allowing us all to accomplish so much more in a day's work. The BACS Evidence Management System has revolutionized temporary evidence storage. Getting rid of the old clunky lockers and replacing them with the automated BACS system has been proven to cut property control officer's evidence processing time in half. Chain of custody is tightened, court costs are reduced and officers no longer have to scramble to track down the property officer to pick up evidence for court! This is a win for the entire department, and well worth the investment. We have the results to prove it!
The first BACS Evidence Management System was installed in August of 2012 in North Andover Police Department (NAPD) in Massachusetts. With over a year in use, NAPD has provided the resulting facts and figures to help other police departments evaluate the return on investment for implementing the BACS System. Details are reported in our newly published white paper showing North Andover having a payback of approximately 1.5 years.
If you are in the process of planning a new building, or interested in upgrading what you have, contact us to evaluate your needs and budget required. For additional information, please click on the link to read the white paper.

LEIDing Edge Spotlight on John Kendall, DK Security
| This month, we look to the LEID Products Advisory Board to shine the spotlight on John Kendall, who also holds the title of CEO at DK Security. DK Security is a full-service security and investigations company that offers a single, trusted company for a wide variety of security and investigative solutions. Founded in 1995 to offer uniform security and investigative services throughout western Michigan, the company developed trusted relationships with its clientele and soon realized clients were looking to DK Security for additional security related needs and questions - this kicked off the company's expansion into being a comprehensive security resource. | John and his daughter, Kathryn Kendall, who is the Executive Vice President of DK Security. |
DK Security employs and contracts with highly skilled professionals who possess years of experience and extensive training in specialties such as forensic accounting, forensic psychology, asset tracing, electronic countermeasures, fraud examination, security services, undercover investigations, surveillance and security technology. After years of experience, the company has become tightly integrated with top companies which provide access control, CCTV and IT security, making for a team of experts from varying fields working together to meet all of a client's security needs.
Born in Canada, John was raised in Detroit and has proudly been a Michigan resident for 38 years. John earned his Bachelor of Science in Police Administration, and later a Master of Public Administration degree from Wayne State University in Michigan. He served his adopted country in the U.S. Air Force - Air Police and nuclear security - serving one Vietnam combat tour before his Honorable Discharge. His law enforcement career continued serving as Chief

of Police in the City of Harbor Springs, MI and then Undersheriff in Grand Traverse County, MI. The highlight of his law enforcement career was his appointment, by President Ronald Reagan, to serve as U.S. Marshal in the Western District of Michigan, a position he held for 13 years. John's extensive law enforcement background has made his input on the LEID Products Advisory Board invaluable to LEID's Executive Team. Referring to President of LEID Products, Sam Hoff, John gave his perspective on LEID Products and its team, "I admire Sam's drive, enthusiasm and commitment to his products and his company. During the year and a half I have been on the Advisory Board, I have developed an even greater appreciation for Sam and his team."
"In the security business, I envision a greater future need for gun lockers at many establishments which need to prohibit access with firearms: (i.e.: concerts, special events, schools, etc.). LEID Products offers a variety of systems which allow for the self-service storage and recovery of weapons by the public entering a facility; therefore, the security officers on staff have no role in the process," John explains. "In other words; the security officers never have to handle the weapon or be accountable for it."
John also sees the value within a law enforcement agency, "When I was a Police Chief, Undersheriff and U.S. Marshal, I could have used LEID's BACS System in a number of ways. Evidence management would be number one, and maintaining weapons and radio inventory would also be critical."
