ppjPain Physician To Publish Letters to the Editor On Important Issues: From Editor-In-Chief Alan David Kaye, MD, PhD

Recently, numerous manuscripts in various journals have been published in reference to interventional pain management; however, majority of them did not accept letters to the editor. If you desire to write letters to the editor for manuscripts published in Pain Physician, but also published outside Pain Physician, you may submit them to Pain Physician within 60 days after the original publication. The manuscript should follow all the requirements detailed in instructions for authors.

In reference to the manuscript published in New England Journal of Medicine for spinal stenosis, Pain Physician is offering to consider any letters to the publication if Pain Physician receives them within the next 30 days.

 Comment Time Ending Sept. 2

The cut-off date for comments on the 2015 proposed fee schedules is 5pm Tuesday, September 2. The response to our requests for comment letters has not been that great. Increase E-Cig Regulation, Says AHA

The federal government should ban the sale of e-cigarettes to minors just as it does cigarettes and smokeless tobacco products, wrote researchers in a policy statement issued by the American Heart Association.

That is just one recommendation from the 20-page report that summarized the history and safety of "electronic nicotine delivery systems" and called for research to address the long-term health effects on individuals and on the public, published inCirculation on Aug 25.

Employers not ditching employee health plans for private exchanges

U.S. employers plan to continue offering health insurance plans to their employees, even in the face of rising healthcare costs and the availability of the federal and state insurance exchanges.

Eighty-three percent of employers consider offering health benefits to their employees important to keeping and attracting employees according to a survey from global professionals services company Towers Watson. Those employers said they will continue to subsidize and manage health benefits for both full-time and part-time employees. However, they are considering capping healthcare coverage subsidies for active employees and reducing how much they chip in to cover spouses and dependents.

Medicaid payouts for office visits may influence cancer screening: study

In states where Medicaid pays doctors higher fees for office visits, Medicaid beneficiaries are more likely to be screened for breast, cervical or colorectal cancer, according to a new study.

"States tend to vary in their reimbursement rates for different types of medical care services; some states may have low reimbursements for certain services and higher reimbursements for others," said lead author Dr. Michael T. Halpern of the Division of Health Services and Social Policy Research at RTI International at Washington, D.C.

Medicaid, a health insurance program for low-income individuals, is jointly funded by the federal government and the individual states. Each state establishes its own coverage and reimbursement policies.
