Library eBooks!

You can download FREE ebooks from the library!

Library ebooks are available to download for Nook, Kindle, Sony, iPad/iPhone, and other devices! Just visit the Digital Catalog to get started.

Why Can't You Find the eBook You Want From the Library?

Although demand for eBooks is growing, the biggest book publishers are limiting library access to their eBooks.

Some publishers cite security concerns while others point out that eBooks, unlike print books, will never need replacing in a library's collection. They fear that library eBook lending cuts into income for both publishers and authors. As library users, it means limited access to some of the current, popular titles we want to read on our new e-readers.

As we continue to expand our eBook collection, we hope you understand some of the limitations that are placed on us. The eBook industry continues to evolve and we're optimistic that a workable solution between publishers and libraries will come about.

If you have any questions about downloading an ebook or transferring it to your device, just ask a staff member!
Informational brochures for each device are also available at the desk to walk you through the steps.

July 2013

Greetings!

Summer Reading is here, and it's not just for kids anymore! We have a program for Adults 18+, and for Teens 12-17 (and of course for kids through age 11)!

Just ask at the Main Desk to sign up starting July 1, or sign up online (those wishing to participate in the children's program must sign up at the Children's Room desk).

All you have to do is read - for every book (whether you read it for pleasure, a school assignment, or any reason at all) fill out a slip or an online log. Each slip/log counts as another entry into the end-of-summer raffle!

See our website for more information on the Summer Reading program for all ages.

The library also has multiple copies of the books recommended for the school assignments by teachers. For your convenience they have been gathered together to make for easier retrieval! Please ask us....

The Summer Food Service Program  is also back again this year! Starting on Monday, July 8th - every weekday, SFSP Logo from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. in the Children's Room, children and teens under the age of 18 can stop in for a free lunch. We hope to see you there!

Please read on for information on all of this month's programs, library news, and more!

Yet, as another Mississippi Summer begins, his wayward mother has run off again fearing a breakdown, and he's left to burn the days caring for his half brother, Fess. As the deep days and nights pass without her return, and with older brother Lucas dangerously in their lives again, Robbie must face the fact that his dreams may never come true. With social services looming over them, Robbie may even lose Fess, the only family he's ever really had."

In English. Running time: 74 minutes.
All screenings are held in the Pioppi Room, lower level.

About the Library Box Office: Most true independent and foreign films get squeezed out of commerical theaters by Hollywood blockbusters, and face skyrocketing costs that make it daunting - if not impossible - to reach appreciative audiences. JEL subscribes to the Film Movement series to bring "art house" independent and foreign films to you.
Author Book Signing
 with Alison Wilhelm

Thursday, July 18th at 6:30 p.m.

Jacob Edwards Library is pleased to host first time author Alison Wilhelm on Thursday, July 18, 2013 in the Reading Room. About the Book:

Twenty-eight-year-old Abby Wood loathes celebrities. Unfortunately, she lives in New York City, where the flashes of their perfect smiles are everywhere. All she wants to do is write a novel and live a relatively drama-free life. While spending another weekend at Lou's Café typing on her trusty laptop and dreaming of a better life, Abby crosses paths with drop-dead gorgeous actor Logan West. Desperate to escape a pack of screaming female fans, Logan comes into Lou's to hide and then sits down at her table. Before she knows it, Abby is being whisked off in a car with a man who soon makes it clear that he is attracted to her... In this contemporary romance, a novelist standing at a crossroads in life faces the biggest choice of her life as her destiny awaits her next move.
