Library eBooks!
| |
You can download FREE ebooks from the library!
Library ebooks are available to download for Nook, Kindle, Sony, iPad/iPhone, and other devices! Just visit the Digital Catalog to get started.
Why Can't You Find the eBook You Want From the Library?
Although demand for eBooks is growing, the biggest book publishers are limiting library access to their eBooks. Some publishers cite security concerns while others point out that eBooks, unlike print books, will never need replacing in a library's collection. They fear that library eBook lending cuts into income for both publishers and authors. As library users, it means limited access to some of the current, popular titles we want to read on our new e-readers.
As we continue to expand our eBook collection, we hope you understand some of the limitations that are placed on us. The eBook industry continues to evolve and we're optimistic that a workable solution between publishers and libraries will come about.
If you have any questions about downloading an ebook or transferring it to your device, just ask a staff member! Informational brochures for each device are also available at the desk to walk you through the steps. | |

Book Club - Look Again by Lisa Scottoline
Monday, June 3rd at 6:30 p.m.
JEL is pleased to present a monthly book discussion! The group is informal and friendly, and new participants are always welcome.
This month the group will discuss Look Again by Lisa Scottoline:
"When reporter Ellen Gleeson gets a "Have You Seen This Child?" flyer in the mail, she almost throws it away. But something about it makes her look again, and her heart stops-the child in the photo is identical to her adopted son, Will.
Her every instinct tells her to deny the similarity between the boys, because she knows her adoption was lawful. But she's a journalist and won't be able to stop thinking about the photo until she figures out the truth. And she can't shake the question: if Will rightfully belongs to someone else, should she keep him or give him up? She investigates, uncovering clues no one was meant to discover, and when she digs too deep, she risks losing her own life-and that of the son she loves.
Lisa Scottoline breaks new ground in Look Again, a thriller that's both heart-stopping and heart-breaking, and sure to have new fans and book clubs buzzing."
Copies are available to check out at the Information Desk!

Library Box Office: Teddy Bear
Thursday, June 13th at 6:00 p.m.
"The 38-year-old bodybuilder Dennis would really like to find true love. He has never had a girlfriend and lives alone with his mother in a suburb of Copenhagen. When his uncle marries a girl from Thailand, Dennis decides to try his own luck on a trip to Pattaya, as it seems that love is easier to find in Thailand. He knows that his mother would never accept another woman in his life, so he lies and tells her that he is going to Germany. Dennis has never been out traveling before and the hectic Pattaya is a huge cultural shock for him. The intrusive Thai girls give big bruises to Dennis' naive picture of what love should be like, and he is about to lose hope when he unexpectedly meets the Thai woman Toi."
In Danish, English and Thai with English subtitles. Running time: 92 minutes.
All screenings are held in the Pioppi Room, lower level.
About the Library Box Office: Most true independent and foreign films get squeezed out of commerical theaters by Hollywood blockbusters, and face skyrocketing costs that make it daunting - if not impossible - to reach appreciative audiences. JEL subscribes to the Film Movement series to bring "art house" independent and foreign films to you. |

8th Annual Pride in Southbridge
Dale LePage: The Voice of the Artist
Thursday, June 27th at 6:30 p.m.
Dale LePage, named Central MA Entertainer of the Year by Worcester Living Magazine, will give a talk and performance! Mr. LePage will discuss overcoming 25 years of stage fright to achieve his success. With a performance of some original songs that helped him overcome his fears, he will also talk about the 8 children' s books he has authored. Please join us in welcoming him to Southbridge!
Nominated entertainer of the year in Boston at the Esplanade Awards, Dale LePage has performed in Night clubs and Cabarets from Maine to Florida. Dale brings to the stage a personality and vocal style that captivate and hold audiences of all ages. Dale is not only a first-rate vocalist with a sound that is both silky smooth and engagingly swinging, when he takes hold of a power ballad (hold on to your seat) he is an artist who truly appreciates the material. Lyrics mean as much to Dale than as the notes he sings. These songs are stories, sung by someone who actually feels and interprets the lyrics. Songs interpreted by Dale consist of wide variety including Michael Buble, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald, Edith Piaf, and many more!
