UMOCA artist-in-residence Tatiana Larsen's works were inspired by chance encounters, subsequent conversations and interviews. They show how the exchange of ideas, narratives and knowledge can transform a simple conversation into a collective experience.

Also: Admiral Potato and Adam Heath collaborate to headline the final installment of UMOCA's ongoing exhibition, .gif Shop. The series re-imagines the .gif as a form of visual communication and contemporary art.

Reading & signing at The King's English Bookshop: 
Raised as an Orthodox Jew, Jacob Paul left the faith at age 18. He wrote fiction. He also worked in finance, "the steel mills of NYC," and had an office in the World Trade Center. On 9/11/2001, in a stairwell, he had an epiphany that would define the crises of all his future fictional characters: "that visceral moment of disbelief and fear, the refusal to acknowledge that... the voice of authority, the word of God ~ cannot offer protection." Tonight is the soft launch of his latest novel.

When author Jon Krakauer stumbled upon a closed polygamist community in Utah in 1999, private investigator Sam Brower (whose 2011 book shares the film's name) was already investigating the sect, known as the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS). This film delves into the world that they both discovered, and features gripping first-person accounts from former members and descendants of FLDS leadership.

Red Butte Garden is looking for volunteers to work with kids (kindergarten - 6th grade) this summer. Volunteers themselves will learn all about botany and ecology. You can attend a training session on March 25 or 26.
 
 
About 45,000 refugees from all over the world live in the Salt Lake Valley. The Refugee Family Mentorship program offers an opportunity for residents to connect with and support the refugee families living in the community. Mentoring includes areas such as education, health care and finance, accessing local services and resources and helping form new community connections. Salt Lake City is working with the Utah Refugee Services Office (RSO) to identify refugee families who would like to participate in the program.

Interested in being a mentor? Attend a short training session, March 19 at 6 p.m. Both individuals and families are encouraged to volunteer in the program.

Pavilions in Salt Lake City cost $43 ($52 for non-residents). Half-day (8 a.m.-2 p.m. or 3 p.m.-10 p.m.) prices are available for Liberty Park  and Washington Park (Parley's Canyon) pavilions.
