Dear friends and family,
You received an earlier version of this newsletter. Delete it, please. The info on the Reader Reward (Body Worlds at the Leonardo) is not free (as the text may have led you to believe), but we have tickets to give away. See below!
The October CATALYST contains one of the best essays I've read in a while, in which Ronnie Cummins proposes a down-to earth mechanism for reversing global warming. Then there's a fun read from Kenvin Lyman proposing that wine grapes replace alfalfa as Utah's crop of choice. Amy Brunvand writes about the ZAP tax. Charlotte Bell recalls her time with BKS Iyengar, the famed yoga teacher. Katherine Pioli writes about Timmi Cruz's parking strip oasis, winter in the henhouse, putting your garden to bed and more.

Doesn't it seem as if this Mercury Retrograde has a peculiar time signature? On one hand, it's definitely a retro-mess of communication snafus-a file I was working with disappeared from my screen in the blink of an eye and couldn't be found anywhere. Yet on the other hand, some aspects of life are moving so swiftly they've become a blur-one minute it's 9 o'clock in the morning and the next, it's 11:30 AM, and a plan for action was conceived, agreed upon, and enacted before lunch...( read more).

Win tickets to Body Worlds! You'll need your October 2014 CATALYST Magazine handy in order to enter. On page 10 of the October issue, the article titled "Reversing Global Warming: The Carbon Underground" by Ronnie Cummins holds the info you'll need (hint: the answers are all on pages 10 & 11). Answer any question below to be eligible for a pair of tickets. Email answers to lori@catalystmagazine.net with your name and phone number. We'll let you know by Monday if you are a winner. 1. We need to reduce the amount of CO2 in Earth's atmosphere to 350 parts per million (ppm) in order to preserve life on earth. What is the tipping point of ppm of CO2 to the catastrophic point of no return? 2. We can reverse climate change with regenerative farming, and ranching and land use. More specifically, what do these traditional regenerative practices include? 3. Industrial food and farming and non-sustainable forest practices have an enormous impact on global warming. What percentage of global greenhouse gas pollution is generated by chemical and energy-intensive GMO, industrial food and farming practices? What percentage does deforestation generate of global greenhouse gas pollution? 4. Cummins suggests that "Getting back to 350 ppm of CO2 in the atmosphere will require nothing less than a global food and farming revolution:..." What 4 actions does he list? (We hope you liked the article and read the whole thing!)
